Look at this video at 14:25 The guy is pretending to be a yakuza member, very cool and powerful and admirable, the reality is he most likely is just a random loser who did some low level crime in the past and now works part time at some manual labor job and spends his money on cheap prostitutes. But to impress this foreigner youtuber, he paid the other guy to follow them around for a while and at some point act like a random fan who wants to shake his hand. It is pretty obvious to us Westerners that it is theatrical behavior, but in the mind of the supposedly yakuza cool boss, he thinks that he will be able to fool us and make his "face" look important. The concept of face is everything to east asians, specially the japs. They live and die for it. I've personally met a couple guys who pretended to be important yakuza, they all turned out to be middle age socially awkward men who inherited some money or business from their fathers, they have no social skills at all and are always trying to impress people and they spend a lot of money on compensated dating. Everything in jap society is like this, people have roles that they play, and they want you to act as if you believe their role even tho you know they are just some loser, they get very angry if you make it obvious that you see past their facade. For example physical contact is illegal, considered assault, so nobody is going to touch you, but this tiny jap men will raise their voice and act like they are about to kill you, always without ever touching you or getting physically close to you, "they really really dont want anything to happen", the reason they do this is to protect their "face", the image of being important and feared, even though everybody knowns they are unimportant and disrespected, they themselves know it too but half of the time they are delusional about it. A common phenomenon in jap teenagers is that they believe themselves to be like heros in anime characters and have secret magical powers, and they take this idea seriously and too far, that same psychological mechanism is what shapes the society in many ways. Japan is a cargo cult of a pacific islander tribe, pretending to be white men and women.
