My husband and I have an ongoing competition to see who the dogs love more. We judge this entirely on who they decide to sit next to on any given moment. I started using a heated blanket recently and am officially now in the lead.

Unfair advantage π
Life ainβt fair π€·ββοΈπ€
Used to do this with my ex and our pets. I always won because cats like people who ignore them and she was always smothering them π
Bahaha luckily the opposite is true for most dogs. Iβm the smothering type too π
Women will always win. They are present more per unit time in ways dogs will notice.
My husband works from home and is with them more π€
Interesting. But perhaps I wasnβt clear enough: itβs about presence per unit time. One can exist near a dog in a way that doesnβt count. Being present to a dog mind requires intentionality.
Ah now I understand your definition. Yeah, that might be true.
I read that dogs release more oxytocin when spoken to in a high frequency pitch and women have higher speaking pitches than men too
Interesting.
We have a huge purebred female American Akita and a small purebred Pomeranian (who happens to be a huge βthrowbackβ variant of his breed weighing nearly 1/10 he Akita) and my wife is clearly top dog. She is firm with them and gets voluntary compliance with commands while I get a glance at my wife before dogs obey my command π€£
Omg haha sheβs definitely their alpha. Come to think of it, the dogs listen to me more too π
You men chose the dog poorly then. I chose the puppy of the litter who had just engaged in a 1hr tug of war with his brother at 8wks old, and he STILL had enough energy to engage with us. That was the dog for me. Iβm alpha in the house and itβs not even questionable. :)
Thereβs more than one alpha is this house and itβsβ¦.interesting sometimes π
My wife provides treats. I refuse to capitulate. Game over
