As a tradesman in the oil and gas industry, I can agree that this is the case. With government mandate that all workers are enrolled in an apprenticeship program, wage increases are coming more easily to the young workers, as BTC_P2P states, you can accomplish a trade in less than 4 years and be making Journeyman wage. In the past we had guys never taking an apprenticeship and just working, with some bumps in compensation with experience but not nearly like going from $20/hr to $50/hr in 4 years. Get out there, get yourself hands dirty, be uncomfortable in the elements, dress in layers. Work hard. There is work opportunity here in Alberta, hopefully with a bit more prosperity on the horizon. The secret is wool! LOL I love the stuff. Sure its rough. But when you are in the shit and sweating hard It matters not if it is 40 above or 40 below... You are comfortable dancing circles around those you work with. They wonder why they are so misserable and you are so cheery. LOL Cause I listened to my grandpa. "Wear WOOL.". he said. I laughed and though he was nuts. But now I am a believer.
