If not enough independent entities/individuals self custody #bitcoin, it goes to zero. Your ETF goes to zero.
That's the game theory, bitcoin ownership must remain good part decentralized.
Man up and do your part.
It's easy.

Honest question: How much is enough and what's the logic behind it?
Hard to know an amount but if the only avenues for trade are exchanges and ETFs, itβs easy to assume that βinfinite liquidityβ and dark pools could and would inhibit price discovery as is what happens often in traditional markets.

Big fan of the #blockstream #jade as well as the #seedsigner to this end.
The ETFs and centralized large corporate owners who will inevitably bend a knee are 6102 in plain sight; without the need to officially enact an executive order as we saw in 1933.
There is a give and take. There are pluses and minuses to both options.
However, the gift Satoshi gave in his whitepaper was not to provide a new system for to re-centralize value into a small subset of hands.
Unfortunately, we have a history of repeating this time and again, regardless of what the new monetary technology is in a specific era.

You can self custody.
Especially now, 2025. Tools are there.
Monero sees close to 100% self-custody these days.
So when we are talking about inflation bugs are we also talking about how custodians can and will create fractional Bitcoin reserves?
You could do fractional banking on an XMR standard too.
Monero is a shitcoin anyway
Hey NVK. Love you brother!!! Coldcard army. Do you see enough institutional players taking self custody when and if the regs allow for it? Whatβs your crystal ball saying?
Iβm not NVK but I remember the Bitwise CEO saying how they want to self custody but like everyone else, they needed to go with the βvettedβ custody solution that was already in place in order to get ETF approval on the same day as others.
What for exactly? Self-custody is a very good thing of course but why would too much lack of it make price go to zero? Are you thinking this would dry up all liquidity? Something else?

I think the problem is that if #btc gets too centralized, they can arrange a 51% attack, which means that people will lose trust in #btc itself.
all that happens is that one day people who think they have bitcoin in an etf find out they don't
so they realize they are actually hugely short bitcoin and all try desperately to do something about it at the same time..
extremely bullish!
If not enough independent entities/individuals acquire and use #bitcoin without KYC, it goes to zero. Your KYC'd Bitcoin goes to zero.

doing your part means owning multiple wallets and nodes (or node supplies) even if they are still packaged and unused. i do this in preparation for an inevitable attack on the ability to purchase these things so that i can help friends and family when they realize in a moment of desperation why these things are needed. i suggest those that are able to do so do the same thing and stock up
Meh
i mean, iβm buying many coldcards. good for biz. but meh. no downside to what iβm proposing. doomer-ish? maybe.
running a node doesn't add anything to the network. Loading up and self validating with your own instance of core when you receiving/sending fund does.
agree
π€
1. Step self custody
2. Step own a full node
3. Step have a miner
ππ½
Can you recommend a way to do so...?
Itβs easyβ¦. With a seed signer

Conducting your transactions from a node you install from

Donβt assume itβs hard! Plenty of people will help if you feel like itβs out of your realm of expertise. Just try it with a small amount of funds to start.

Another good reason to oppose the government from creating a strategic bitcoin reserve.
If you don't self custody you can't bid on blockspace.

Man up and convert it to Monero. In a couple years, you will thank yourself.
Exactly! I tell people, don't only focus on SOV. SOV is built upon the sovereign MOE use case. If that option is not exercised and it Bitcoin is not used in daily transactions, the long term value is a called into questions as well.
