He’s totally right. What’s with all this stinginess and speculation? Zap at today’s value.
Speculation has so many flaws, that’s why it’s called speculation. First problem: you or the person you’re zapping could die tomorrow. What happens to the concept of hodling then? Who benefits from that? Yeah, exactly, you’re left standing there looking stupid.
You’re not really speculating on Bitcoin’s future value. You’re betting that you will even live long enough to see those good days. That’s BS. The only thing certain in life is death, and the uncertain thing is when it’s coming.
Unlike some of the greedy ******** around here, at least my record looks good. I’ve zapped more than two and a half times what I’ve received. Not like those who make millions here and give back maybe a thousand. You know who I’m talking about.
Still, I should zap even more.
How about this: we top up our Lightning wallets with fifty bucks every month and actually spend it? Or throw 5 to 10 % of your monthly stack into the zap wallet. Imagine if everyone did that. Boom, we’d have a real independent, circular value-for-value economy here. It would motivate people to create amazing content, which in turn would pull in outsiders to Nostr like a magnet. That’s how you get the real mass adoption everyone keeps dreaming about.
Fifty bucks a month for social media that doesn’t analyze you, track you, spy on you, or manipulate you ... and even helps you grow as a person. That’s basically one Netflix and one sports streaming subscription. Too much? Fine, make it forty or thirty.
And you “Zapvertisers” with your tiny single-digit Sat campaigns ... next time I’m muting you. Make your campaigns cost at least $200 to $300 for a hundred to five hundred recipients. Remember the term “banner blindness”? Yeah, it’s turned into “mini-zap ad blindness” here. People don’t even bother reading what’s written in the zap comment anymore.
Seriously, we need to rethink our habits. Let’s turn Nostr into a real community project.

Always need to zap more! Nostr is our economy now so we need to use it to understand how we can support and grow it.
I can say from just running numbers on the activity of #NoorNode this past few months wr have about $80-$100 circulating in the muslim community here each month. It's a good start but obviously we can do better. I do understand that 1k sats might mean significantly more to someone in Africa or Asia than to mtself in America but if every Muslim loaded just 1-3k sats to zap each month I know we would immediately double or even tripple the liquidity of our circular economy here.
This can scale to funding charitable goals which is something we should think about as Ramadan approaches. We should make this the most zapped Ramadan ever!
Bottom line is that zaps are a very real way to show where value is. If you've been here a while and you're not zapping it shows you don't find much value in the community here (and if that is the case I'd love to know why). Zaps aren't just your way to show appreciation (and yes, you can do silent zaps), they are also a kindness and sadaqa.
Imagine if one day we could set up a foundation like OpenSats.
That’s a great idea.
This is kind of the idea with #PodSystems. Right now it's still very early but we are producing content and the incubator model I think works even better than a foundation because it provides so much more value to startups than just a financial boost.
InshaAllah. I think this will inevitably happen as more and more folks join.
ان شاء الله
