I am not sure if everyone who is outraged by the insane rise in RAM pricing understands that this is solely because a billionaire bought 40% of all memory chip production. Not because he needs it, just to oust the competition. And the entire IT sector, and all private PC owners, have been taken prisoners in the process.

If anyone wonders what exactly the news is, this https://www.mooreslawisdead.com/post/sam-altman-s-dirty-dram-deal is the best article I've found on it so far.

The best thing about running a ten year old pc is I can upgrade it with five year old parts.
@npub1mnu6...cfe8 DDR3 cheaper than ever though ;)
Is there a huge advantage to the newer generations?
@npub1mnu6...cfe8 So this is exactly whatβs been going on for decades in the housing market pretty much everywhere in the western world, but for some reason people seem to consider it perfectly fine when itβs about real estate instead of RAM.
@npub1mnu6...cfe8 obviously this is by design, once the data centers are all complete they will sell you cloud computing because running a powerful computer natively at home will be way to expensive unless you've luckily built one prior to all thie increases in pricing, it's all coming together just like Klaus Schwaben said "you will own nothing and you will be happy"
@npub1mnu6...cfe8 Apple has done similar things in the past, but they were actually using the lasers and aluminum CNC mills, freezing out smaller competitors for over a year just by the sheer volume of Apple's production needs. Altman's purchases is monopolistic behaviour.
@npub1mnu6...cfe8 i'm not sure anyone who posts this has any basic idea of economics
