NIP 17: You put your own DM relay and it works with any client without having to tell your friends which server to use. It's your server, so you can delete all your DMs at any moment and block everyone else from downloading them.
Full control. Your infra. No central hub. Fully interoperable.
No more trackers from any company.

no love for marmot?
Marmot doesn't use nip17 but nip-ee (signal over relay)
I like Marmot, but it is very complex for clients to implement. It's not going to have widespread support in nostr.
Any need for a large shared lib in nostr is doomed to fail.
I think nip17 is enough to respect the privacy.
reasonable take, thank you
Someday, but im still running into many interoperability problems between clients.
Which clients?
The ones i have mainly been testing are:
OxChat
Flotilla
Amethyst
Yakihonne
I will do some checks in those as well
+1
I haven't tested lately, but I had trouble with nip17 between Amy & Yaki. I spoke with @elsat about it and I think it was added to the Nostrability Github.
Yes, yakihonne seems to have the least interoperability in the ones ive tested at the moment.
Thanks gents. Confirming I found interoperability friction on Yakihonne.
I passed on my findings to team Yaki
cc @WendyDing
Wendy passed them to us well received elsat we will look into them π
We are on elsat findings π thanks for the feedback
Hard to keep track, so nip17 is the easier to implement DM, and Marmot is the full on ultimate privacy DM and group chat, but much more work to implement?
Yep. Marmot is its own protocol because it is so complex.
