A big conservative political podcast (seven figure YouTube subscribers) asked me to come on and talk about bitcoin (sat next to them on the plane out of the May conference in Vegas, which sparked their request).
Last week when I went on the show, they decided to emphasize a talking point of why tariffs are great and will usher in a golden age, and some questions about bitcoin.
When asked about tariffs, I generally disagreed that they would be bullish or usher in a new golden age, mentioned that the past three months of data doesnβt show a decline in import prices which means it has been a tax on Americans, and eventually we moved to discussing bitcoin.
They ended up not airing the talk, and instead ran the clip with someone else who agreed on the tariff points. Waste of time, basically.
Itβs a reminder that a big percentage of what you see in heavily politicized media is about narrative framing and talking points rather than genuine attempts to discuss or explore. It reminded me why I normally decline to go on political shows; I had only agreed to this one because the catalyst was in person and so the agreeable side of me was like βsure, why notβ.
Well, thatβs why not.

Yeah, I too think tarifs are bullshit. Ah, they mentioned bullish. Nah

What is the logic for not liking Tariffs ? Do you know how much Tarrifs India has on US goods ? It is not a matter of taxing US citizens or Foreingn companies .. It is a matter of creating a better global trade system .. like a better global village .. you got to use both - carrot and the stick ...

Yeah, and Europa (where I'm from) as well. They should not exist in free markets, which we mostly don't have either.

Search "ricardian economics" or "comparative advantage"
Of course, there's more to be said than just the theory, but get the theory first.
Or at least read Bastiat:
http://bastiat.org/en/petition.html
The tariffs are also a way to force countries to buy American debt via treasury bonds. No thanks.
You chose to hollow out your own industrial companies become a consumer and now bleating about the debt. The debt is 151 trillion. Not 37 trillion.
You cannot have it both ways. The Griffen report highlighted this dilemma.
Selling USD and being the global currency can work in the short term. But US adopted this as a long term policy. Something breaks. And now here we are. On a train hurtling towards Recksville.
Totally agree .. why does India has 150 percent Tarrifs on US Auto and Whiskey ? They are not a third world nation by any stretch of imagination given their economy is third largest ...
I know .. all those rules apply to US .. how about setting some non Tarrifs rules on EU .. or China or India .. I am sympathetic to smaller developing nations .. n but if go by your theory .. they too are harming themselves by imposing Tarrifs on US goods (services) .. or Chinese .. right ?
Theories are great .. till we hit a real world example .. then lets just talk specifics ..
Why does India has 50 billion (per year ) trade surplus with US ? Is it like US has nothing to offer ? Btw - just FYI .. India imposes 150 percent Tarrifs on US Auto and Whiskey .. I mean I can still live without a Ford Truck but without Jack Daniels .. give me a break :-) ..Or straight up Bourbon ...
The only reasonable tariff is 0.
EU is no better, btw
That is exactly what Trump is doing ... The goal of Tarrifs are simple
1) Lead world towards no government intervention in Trade.
2) Open unfettered access to Americal businesses (big or small) across the globe
3) Put a minimum Tarrifs on countries that exploit labor to produce cheapo goods .. These nations have no laws of their own and they allow American corps (read Apple and Nike) to exploit their labor .. Which in turn undermines American Manufacturing .
4) Push nations to stop wars (eg India supporting Russia) .. Time and again we have seen , Sanctions don't wok .. Tarrifs do
And here is another fact - Only TRUMP can do it ..
That's by design. Our government spends too much, and it's only possible because other countries keep buying our dollars. Its only a trade deficit if you don't understand that dollars are the good we produce and you demand. If no one wanted dollars, our economy would hyperinflate because the domestic economy can't absorb that many dollars. So, on the one hand, thank you ; on the other hand, please stop. The tariff makes no difference to me - stop buying our dollars.
Okay .. I understand that .. so you want us to keep making dollars and keep adding to debt ?
Or Do you want us to stand on our feet ( manufacturing ) ?
Idk, you do you man. There's pros and cons to either.
Are you actually in India? What's the situation like between the states and the federal government? Its a federal entity, right? How autonomous are the states? Could they buy bitcoin without federal approval? Could cities? Are the cities and/or states buying gold? I know India loves gold, but I don't know if that's all the government levels or just one or just the people buying it. But most curious if they could get bitcoin.
kinda don't get the part that 0 is the goal. it's not what he's doing.
you can rationalize this BS all day long
No, India is not a third world country. This is an attack on BRICS+, specifically China. China has USA by the short and curlies.
1. China holds the most Treasury bonds.
What happens if China sells them back to USA?
USA is forced to buy them back - with what?
The printer will go brr.
What happens if China demands payment in gold? It too, is also a global reserve currency .
The underlying threat is to stop the yuan from becoming part of the global currency.
2. So attacking India is designed to force India out of BRICS. The public signal was USA weaponising Pakistan to attack India. This weakens BRICS.
My assumption is USA's threat on India will backfire.
3. The biggest threat is that China has cornered the rare earth minerals - USA desperately needs them for military weapons. So, China is humbling USA through bureaucratic overload.
China's playbook is the game of Go. USA is playing chess.
The same tactic was used in Vietnam . And somebody lost.

Lol .. do you really think Trump is playing this 3 dimensional chess .. dude .. you been watching too much youtube conspiracies ..
Trump acts from clear facts - he wants to bring manufacturing back to US . . He doesn't want to rein the world through spreading ( and thus printing more ) dollars .. and he wants American companies have same access to to global markets as the rest of world has to US ..
Besides - he wants American people total freedom with Bitcoin and stable dollars .. and of course Gold ..
Btw - the reason he succeeds is he doesn't think this much .. I guess that is the reason the guy is stronger than most Americans at 80 .. That is something to learn ..
Since YT keeps asking to re-register - I've kicked it to the curb.
Instead I've subscribed to relevant websites, who also make appearances on Nostr. Many do not.
Some people prefer visual presentations, some prefer audio and some prefer reading documents. I read, unless its a longform interview that challenges my perspective, then I'll watch on rumble or odyssey .
Your assumption that Trump speaks from facts, clearly indicates you prefer the scripted version, rather than fact. The Epstein files are a classic example. A complete flip flop.
Regarding BTC - Trump put out a new document and he's talking out both sides of his mouth. And this was on Nostr. Unfortunately I did not bookmark it for further study. But I'll find it, because Trump wants BTC in the reserve basket with conditions for the plebs - details of the cold wallet is one of them.
Regarding manufacturing - my assumption is this - China is the global factory now. They have an extensive supply chain infrastructure, they have the ability to take any new product coming from other countries and copy it, scale it up and launch it faster and cheaper than anyone else. That is what Trump is up against. Cheap labour and unions are not a problem for China. Neither is AIPAC or Israel.
You are correct Trump doesn't think that much. Using bluff, trade bullying, threats to make countries bend the knee merely shows arrogance, entitlement and an overblown ego.
So, yes China plays Go. Trump plays chess. Different rules applied to accessing global purse, power and control.
Wish they'd have you on a show like Breaking Points. They only have Bitcoin critics on which is a damn shame because Saagar owns Bitcoin! It's also a Left and Right leaning show, so should be more beneficial.
Krystal is a deranged communist so she probably hates Bitcoin.
Krystal and Emily did a hit piece last week with some D-bag self described "OG" bitcoiner. Was total shit, all the typical uninformed talking points with a sprinkling of "appeals to authority" trust me bro. Very disappointing lack of curiosity or push back from otherwise very well respected journalists on breaking points' ho-show
You sound like an idiot calling her a communist, sorry.
I seen it, it was awful. S'why I keep trying to get pro Bitcoiners on my fav. left shows. Just isn't happening. Even that Jason Maier progressive bitcoiner dude can't make it on. Just skeptics. It'd be nice to see leftists put in their place concerning bitcoin by someone who knows what the fuck they're talking about. It's frustrating.
Bitcoin for anyone including leftiesπ€π½

Terrible. It only shows the left are not the only ones doing this!
π± this is so disappointing. Those are the very shows and audiences who need to hear your message π
Loved the episode of coin stories with the futurebit Apollo guyβ¦
Just saw it yesterday!!!
Completely agree! Remember flying down to do a Lex Fridman podcast about why #bitcoin just as Elon was changing his tune about it. Never aired because it didnβt fit the narrative.
Where can we find this podcast!? Iβm addicted to scarcity now.
@LexFridman release the tape!
Oh wait, he's not a nostrich
Something fishy is going on with lex. He's deleted podcasts as well. I think he deleted podcasts with shivon zillas maybe cause he has too big a crush on her. Also found out yesterday he deleted podcasts #100 which was with his dad. He wants to cover up that he actually didn't go to MIT. So like Rogan and Elon he probably stopped talking about Bitcoin and having btcers on air. But his podcast with Michael saylor is part of what orange pilled me. Amongst some other stuff going on at the time.
Lex with Saylor is pretty damn good. If it's still up.
Wait⦠there is an unaired Lex Fridman episode with you??? I would actually watch that for once!
Had reservations prior but completely tuned him out after.
When someone shows you who they are - trust them.
Lex friedman is literally a spy/agent of CIA coubterintelligence unit guys, I dont know how much more obvious this can be
For what itβs worth, Iβve always thought his show was shit and never made it through more than 5 minutes of any episode Iβve startedβ¦
I always felt he was grotesquely fake and it was supremely off-putting for me.
Dude just has bad vibes.
did you try saying the word "love" repeatedly?
that could work next time..
Makes senses.
π time youβll never get back π€
His episodes with the primeagen and dhh are really good actually
Wow! Unbelievable! Iβve been suspicious of Lex Fridman for many years. This confirms it.
No way.
Thatβs wild
Social influencers have a social influence hierarchical structure
Damn I always thought he was so genuine
Wow. His supporters just lost out on valuable information from one of the best.
Wait for reals, you sat down for a podcast with Lex that never aired?
Same. Not sure where all this hate is coming from.
So what you're both saying is that when you are given a platform, it's because it fits a particular narrative.
Lex the guy that never went to MIT that claims heβs a student and professor there. That Lex?
Ultra sound observation.
I sometimes would listen, but for the guests he brings on. He's amazingly annoying and I hate that he feels the need to talk so much! A good podcaster does the questions right, shuts up and listens
Occasionally he has great episodes. Itβs mostly the guests, though.
I used to watch many of his earlier episodes and learned and enjoyed a lot. But a few years ago this changed.
I still remember the episodes with Robert Breedlove and Michael Saylor which I find very good.
But this information from you now confirms, that my changed opinion is justified.
Thank you. ππ»
Lex puts me to sleep anyway
Lex Friedman is a showman only and not interested in advancing society. He gets no views from me
I stopped taking him serious when he started blocking people who discussed his height.
Wow, I wouldn't have thought he'd waste someone's time like that. But he did.
Jeff Booth - Bad
Benjamin Netanyahu - Good
In simple terms. Fuck these guys. Tick Tock next block.
Better to know than not to know where people are coming from.
what????
:O
Sad to hear there is a Jeff Booth podcast we'll never see.
Thank you both for the truth. I more or less assumed as much but clearly I was too generous, naive, and/or blind by bias.
π
Wow. TIL.
Lex is an asset, he blocked every single person on x that raised the question, "was he even at MIT?"
Wait, really?? Glad I never paid any attention to his persona. Why waste your guest's time if you never air?
Thatβs good to know. Can you point to evidence?
Thatβs terribly sad to hear. Iβve been a big fan of his stuff.
How Lex got so big is a "mystery". He's the worst interviewer ever with the personality of a rake.
Not surprise. The way he covered the Russian war in Ukraine is a shame
Personal contacts expressing their interpretations, for what thats worth. Its very obvious as well if you were paying attention to his early years before a "deal" was established
Such a shame the interview wasn't released, but something always felt off and after seeing this a few days ago now I'm not surprised
Lex can make any guest or subject boring.
Can you explain what is obvious about it? I wasnβt paying attention to his early years.
An asset for who though?
This is where @TheRupertDamnit is supposed to say βyour momsβ
That tracks
But I ate it instead?
Have yall ever considered bringing your own recording devices, so that you can publish entire unedited videos?
π
Typical tribe narrative control
Maybe your interview was just dull. Did you at least consider that possibility?
Thank Rogan for that gem
Indeed.
Why is he so big the!?
If you can put your audience to sleep, the metrics look like they finish the whole episode?

the sponsors are calling the shots --- happens on the largest alternative radio show guest like my brother are inform they don't want them talking about certain subjects --- he does anyway and doubles down:)
This is why we need more podcasts.
@Lyn Alden your disagreeableness is a useful trait to have.
Oh, you didn't know the market economy only listens to red or blue?
Politics has been theatre for a long time. The curtain is beginning to lift and the people are seeing the gears worked and the building are just a facade. The only problem is that the drama was played with their own stored value.
I totally understand your behavior and am gratefulnfor you sharing the experience. I don't think it was a waste of time

At least you got paid and we all learned something
They've been systematically suppressed for so long that a lot of people had forgotten that most right-wingers are the same type of low-grade moron as the left wing, just with a slightly different paint job.

Appreciate you, Lyn. Also, fuck these fuckos. Political simps are the lowest of the low. Thank you for refusing to compromise.
What kind of dumb fuck doesn't air a show with Lyn Alden? Even if you disagree with her...
Would be hilarious if you recorded it and aired it yourself.
@Jeff Booth @Lyn Alden @nat brunell
If any of yβall ever wanna come on the @Simply Nostr podcastsβ¦ I promise Iβll air it . On Nostr only tho ππβ
Thanks for your story, I think it's an extremely important issue.
I think not many people realise that many podcasts that they see as alternative media are now basically mainstream media. They are captured and purely used for propaganda.
I think it's mostly the bigger political right pods and the big tech ones. Keywords like 'golden age', 'they run the government as a business' and 'Thiel and Musk are libertarians' are massive red flags.
Don't consider every #podcast 'alternative media' people, many are just mainstream media now.
#freedom
It was Pomp's podcast wasn't it?
Iβm old enough to remember saying these types of formats were going to usurp the old broadcast system but it just repackaged it.
Itβs all a big show and (sometimes) youβre not on it
Somewhere between expected outcome and scary π§
Very disappointing and waste of your time
Sounds like a dick.
The establishment is really something else.

They are all self serving scum.
We need the bootleg version of it! Did you record the conversation yourself?
Live on air or no dice
Call them out. Name names.
Donβt learn that airtime means truth.
Fiat media doesnβt need curiosity β it needs compliance. When you question the script, they cut your mic. Bitcoiners learn to speak outside the studio.
Thatβs why we wear the signal. Quietly.
If it resonates, feel free to repost: https://dontlearnbitcoin.org

"it has been a tax on Americans" - who would have thought eh? For a country who's importing a vast amount of resources this shouldn't come at a surprise. I actually wrote a very long note on this topic a couple of months ago. But of course, I didn't know what I was talking about...
And Iβm on board with tariffs (though I have a somewhat moderate position between @Lyn Alden here and more hardcore conservatives on this issue), but it does go to show how canned much of this discussion is.

THE WEST IS ENDING BUT THE INTERNET IS JUST BEGINNING
When narratives become more important than truth..
When self-righteous men rather entertain their audience than speak out against what's wrong..
Then you'll know we've already crossed the point of no return.
It has to become worse before it's getting any better.

Thank you for sharing this @Lyn Alden, much appreciated. Truth is everything that matters.
There are some good podcasts out there, but they mostly seem to ignore bitcoin and just shrug at tariffs (not good or bad). If you have a connection who could get you in, I'd love to hear you on the Ruthless podcast or something in the National Review universe.
Good lesson! Or consider charging for your time when it is a political so at least you can buy more bitcoin with it!
Ahh that sucks, and lame of them.
Fuckers
Not a shock
It's possible that free trade has led to extracted bifurcation of income and a terrible gini coefficient. Maybe
Put the broken money is probably the bigger culprit in my opinion
You need to record them yourself, and get them to sign an agreement before you go on the show that you can release it yourself if they decide not to air it
A little disagreement shouldn't be cause to punt an episode. That shows thin skin and thin standards.

Should name names on all verifiable facts. A noterized affidavit would suffice.
Youβre one of the smartest people in Econ.
I can think of a couple reasons why you'd choose not to share the name of the podcast, but I think it would be good for us to know.
Would you consider telling nostr who it was?
Indeed just because it's labelled "alternative media" doesn't mean it's not curated media, everyones got an agenda and in the end a slave to what gets clicks
