absolutely. in my vision of a more ideal society, every man must be trained, armed and ready to assemble at any time, engage in regular exercises with their neighbours and less regularly, gather with other regions to coordinate actions across the spaces between and around their area.
and every woman also should be capable of serving in the support capacities for the men and also be required to participate at least once a year in these tasks. that means they must have basic training in combat, medic, and capable of other duties involved in an encampment, cooking, cleaning, and doing things like gathering the children to go into bunkers, so they remember how to do it. i totally disagree with the idea that they should be involved in combat, that's just weakening the morale and strength of a militia. besides, women are the golden gooses of human society. there is no human society without someone incubating new humans and doing all that nasty work that is required.
of course, in either case for either gender, technicians are technicians, and so someone like me would not be anything more than maybe a scout (because i like creeping around in the dark and this kind of stuff) but mainly would be back at base keeping the relevant tools and equipment working. in my case, probably comms and networking.
it's also notable that virtually all countries have ended mandatory service. this is a very bad thing for deterring attacks. can you imagine antifa daring to run out into the street hurling bricks and molotovs and dudes open up a window and shoot them all dead.
so, if you want to destroy a society, you have to also end compulsory military service, in order to empower criminals and terrorists, who are the enemy of the people.
