View quoted note β†’ I've been saving what I can in Bitcoin consistently for about 2 years. I don't have a lot. I also have more than most. Computers aren't my strong suit but it also has pushed me to figure out what I can at my pace. I figured out self custody on chain (to a satisfactory degree) rather early. Because I realized the power that gives me. On a network like Bitcoin, with a finite, predictable, verifiable unit of account. Open to anyone. Bound to energy and cryptography. That can't just be bought to be changed. Robust, as in, maybe I don't have access to it right now. But somewhere it is running. And it is not lost. Something I could have the keys to the signature as mine. I see that value in that. I can be a "shrimp" and still understand the value proposition better than people stuck in a fiat mindset. But I know I understand it better than Blackrock. Or people making "policies" to limit more liberties. And I'll do my damnedest to keep my sats safe. And tell others who see the potential that a fair monetary consensus could bring. So they also see how important self custody is over a fiat price tag. I have become far to nihilistic in my youth. #Bitcoin gives me a longer term outlook. Something that makes sense to me. Clunky and confusing as it may be to use still. It's worth it. And I will say. It is getting much easier. #nostr has been huge in me seeing the function is there. And working. Ramble done. Now go zap @Max DeMarco for his phenomenal work on his documentary some more πŸ«‘πŸ«‚
interesting short doc. i think it's important to distinguish the apex control lies in ai/agi bot tech scaffolding. and i'm doing so, control is handed to the computer intelligence and smart validator apparatuses - with a human oligarchy overseeing them. if that's so acceptable and interesting and a savior system: why not say that instead of skirt the issue and talk in crossworded programmer code? if universal adoption is really the goal: why not make the compression accessible? jargon is a gatekeeing methodology, not an act of inclusivity.
Interesting documentary which sheds light for normies on the problems of centralization, commercialization, government control and warped incentives. However, it spends a considerable amount of time with folks that were caught up in those and contributed to the problem (however reformed we are expected to believe they have become). Still interesting and relevant, but it seems like it missed an opportunity by not including the people who recognized those problems, and the processes through which they crafted and offered an elegant open solution. Considering the complexity of the issues at play, there are a number of huge ones, this was no easy nut to crack. Somehow @Ben Arc, @fiatjaf and many other nostr contributors made it look simple. Witnessing the emergence of the nostr protocol and ecosystem has been fascinating and inspirational. I suspect there will be more documentaries to follow that go into greater detail so that others are inspired to follow in the footsteps of those who dare to disrupt negative practices by offering free (as in freedom), open and decentralized alternatives. What I also think is a good way to familiarize "beginners" with Bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto's vision is this 6-part documentary by the French-German culture channel ARTE. All just over 10 minutes long and available in 6 languages. I would be very interested to hear how the "pros" @jack, @Gigi, @ODELL, and all the others rate/judge this documentary... (because maybe it's not as good as I see it because I don't understand enough...hmm) https://www.arte.tv/en/videos/097372-001-A/the-satoshi-mystery-the-story-of-bitcoin/
A family member wants to leave social media and is looking for an alternative. I sent him the link to the #nostrdocumentary from @Max DeMarco. It's still a masterpiece and I hope it will convice him to learn more about this powerful open source protocol. #nostr
