cashu.me has been using nostr for a long time under the hood. nostr has been extremely helpful, it's a no-brainer:
- gives you a lightning address via npub.cash so you can receive zaps
- nostr wallet connect to control your wallet remotely
- send ecash between two wallets via Cashu payment requests (uses NIP-17, defined in NUT-18)
- backup your mint list on nostr so you can restore a wallet from just the seed phrase, no need to remember your mints
- discover ecash mints to add to the wallet (NIP-87)
- leave ratings for ecash mints, find the most popular ones
- filter ratings for mints via your web-of-trust (or use @ODELL's wot if you're new)
we're adding more features every day. nostr unlocks amazing powers that we need, not because we aim to build the best nostr apps but we want to provide the best possible cashu and bitcoin experience.
nostr wins if it stops trying to be a twitter clone and starts being the invisible layer underneath apps you actually want to use. like bitchat for location-based messaging, diVine for entertainment, whitenoise for private messaging, zap.stream for streaming, shakespeare for vibe coding, etc.
it wins by unbundling into 50 different apps that all talk to each other, rather than one giant app/corp that traps you. it's all about the ecosystem.
