Closed platforms dictate how creators can monetize their content. Open protocols shift that power back to the creators, giving them the freedom to choose how they want to monetize their content.

For years, I posted every day on facebook, motivated solely by likes, and on instagram, without ever reaching the level of interaction found on facebook.
Then I installed Primal a month ago. I don't know anyone, yet I receive Zaps without asking for anything, without completing tasks or winning challenges... I find it crazy, even if other interactions become rarer as a result.
The ability to monetize content beyond Zaps is simply impressive; it opens up equal opportunities for anyone, wherever they are and whoever they are.
A bright future lies ahead.
I want to pay a few hundred sats everyday for pics of skyes. But it seems difficult to get any attention to muy proposal...
You want me to take a pic of my sky? It's very blue with a couple clouds right now.
Thanks to @jb55 NIP57
Yes, I'd zap you forma that.
I am not sure what you mean. Monetisation is identical on open or closed platforms, it either happens or it doesnβt. The choices of how and what gets monetised is also the same, text, image, video etc. The only thing that is different is origin source and type of payment. The open protocol allows a user to choose the destination of their payment. That is the only difference. Creators are still subject to the whim of the giver so canβt choose anything involving monetisation except direct from the giver with no βmiddleman.β
The open protocol puts %100 of the power into the hands of the independent giver.
If you want to monetize content, you should be able to do so without asking for permission and without following the constraints of the platform or tools that you're using for your content.
i.e I should not have to hit an arbitrary following number or KYC amount before I can get paid.
MONETIZE MY CONTENT HARDERR DADDY

Closed platforms rent you an audience. Open protocols let you own your connection to it. Thatβs sovereignty.
That or closed platforms are dictated by the closed payment processors they use on what can be monetized.
I had this conversation at a graphic novel premiere the other night! Many twitch streamers with gaping mouths while I described the elimination of the middle man.
Did they understand or think this is possible?
They thought I was describing a magical utopia. The emphasis on follow count is hard to let go of for some of them though. Explaining quality of followers over quantity is a challenge.
Expecting one of them to try zapstream and Nostr this weekend. π
It's going to take several touch points before people decide to give these new concepts a try. Great work!
Iβd argue that audiences dictate how creators monetize their content. Closed platforms just guard the door and collect the cover.
Audience gives you the illusion of a choice if it's on a closed platform.
I agree with that, they definitely tell you who you can reach. Guess Iβm coming from a place where memes and pics and vlogs get more attention than text. Audience preference dictates what content is worth creating.
Closed platforms restrict the types and terms, but open protocols let creators play. Regardless, true monetization depends on creators aligning with audience desires.
Follow me if you see this please! New to Nostr and don't want it to feel lonely like it does now. Thanks team
