A small(ish) grumble about Some People. I have a mailing list for people who sign up to be notified when I release a new book (a fairly rare occasion). That's the only time I notify them - no chatty stuff, no nudges, just a simple email to tell them there's a new book out. The emails have the usual "Unsubscribe" link, and because I try to be super-considerate about this sort of thing I have another Unsubscribe link in a box at the top, so that it's pretty well the first thing recipients see. The list has some thousands of names, and whenever I send out a message I get a few unsubscribes, which is absolutely to be expected, and not at all an issue. What sets me grinding my teeth, though, is the small-but-enough-to-be-annoying subset of people who rather than simply unsubscribing send an "abuse" report. Providers quite understandably have a low tolerance for spam and other abusive behaviour, so this puts me at risk of losing access to this large pool of eager readers. Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest. Grumble over, back to enjoying watching sales come in :)
