Simple. Most billionaires are French-style aristocrats at heart and believe that they can once in a while throw a couple of dollar bills at the proles, and those will then build their palaces and empires for them like good worker ants.
If they dress in denim and Hawaiian t-shirts and drink coffee with you for a minute at their regular talkathons, it's just show. They are not your friend, you will never be their friend, they don't want you near them for more than a minute at a time because they know all too well that most of you want their dosh, and they have professionals employed to make sure that very little trickles down to you.
