Best practices for using a hardware wallet 🧵👇 1/ Choose a Bitcoin-only device. If Bitcoin is your priority, your hardware wallet should reflect that. Manufacturers that focus solely on Bitcoin are more likely to prioritize security over altcoin support. 2/ Buy directly from the manufacturer. No Amazon. No eBay. Tampered devices are real. Avoid the risk and order straight from the official website. 3/ Airgapped > USB. Pick a device that can be used airgapped, like the Blockstream Jade. Your seed should never be generated or stored on a device that's directly connected to the internet. 4/ Use open-source wallet software. Always download from official sources. And if you want extra peace of mind, pair your device with open-source software like Sparrow or Electrum (instead of the manufacturer's companion app). 5/ Create your own entropy. Advanced, but worth it. Use dice rolls or coin flips to generate your seed, not just the device’s internal generator. "Don't trust, verify." 6/ NEVER input your seed on an online device. Not in a photo. Not in Google Docs. Not in a screenshot. Your seed belongs offline. Period. 7/ Test your backups. Don't wait for an emergency. Generate a seed → derive addresses → delete the wallet → recover the seed offline. Practice recovery while you're calm, not when you're panicking. 8/ Practice sending & receiving. Make small test transactions until you’re fully comfortable using your device. It’s cheap insurance and builds confidence.
5 steps to run your own #Bitcoin node 🧵👇 🔸 Pick the right hardware. At minimum: ➡️ Raspberry Pi (4GB RAM) + external SSD (1TB) Future-proof setup? ➡️ Mini PC (8GB RAM) + SSD (2TB) 🔸 Download node client software. Bitcoin Knots is a great option: 🔗 Always download directly from the source. Verify the digital signatures and developer PGP keys. 🔸 Install and launch the software. When prompted, choose where to store the blockchain. Then start syncing with the Bitcoin network — this may take a few days. 🔸 Once fully synced, your node is live. It now verifies blocks and relays transactions independently. When connected to your wallet, you’re no longer relying on someone else’s node for information. 🔸 That’s it! You’ve just leveled up your Bitcoin setup: ✅ Full transparency ✅ Better privacy ✅ More sovereignty +1/ Want to go further? Use something like Start9 to get more out of your device: → Bitcoin + Lightning node → Password manager → Much more
Bitcoin cycles are important not just because they can help you accumulate more bitcoin, but because they drive adoption. With every cycle, more people fall down the rabbit hole. 🐇 It’s true that most get wrecked, but a good number stick around and are forced to learn about bitcoin and that’s when people’s lives change. We need more people in bitcoin, not companies or governments. Unfortunately, to attract people, there has to be a financial incentive. There are many paths to bitcoin, whether through pain or smart decisions. I’ve never suffered with bitcoin all these years, instead, my conviction has only grown stronger. Everyone becomes a maximalist eventually. It doesn’t matter how you start, at the end of the road, you realize bitcoin is all that matters.
