The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.
I find it funny that Bari Weiss's new initiative is all about bringing SERIOUS DEBATE about IDEAS THAT MATTER back to television news, but the combatants are all podcasters or dudes like Stephen Pinker, who is being asked to weigh in on a subject very far outside his actual lane.
I think part of What's Going On with billionaires is that the daily friction of interacting with normal people is part of what anchors people to the real world, and once you have enough money to buy your way out of the friction you can knock down a load-bearing column propping up your sanity.
Trump did the thing, everyone knows he did the thing, and he's got an entire political party and associated media apparatus trying to cover up his clear involvement in the thing. One of the sickest, most sordid chapters in an especially sick and sordid period of modern American history.
I wrote about what I see as the real lesson of Mamdani's victory: not that Democrats needs to move left (or right, for that matter), but that they should try to build real-world relationships with normal voters. publiccomment.blog/p/mamdani-th... Mamdani the Party Builder
