Last week was tough, but I am feeling energized as ever this Monday. I have never more been so certain about the path we are on at Canurta Therapeutics and my intention to align ourselves with freedom money vs money that is traditionally gate kept. Never could I have imagined being turned down for funding -- not because we do not qualify for the loan or project, not because people dont understand science, not because we don't have guaranteed security behind out company, or any other traditional risk concerned with early-stage biotech -- but because the funder does not like the source ingredient of our medicine. It doesn't matter that our source ingredients are non-psychoactive, nor that this medicine has the potential to do what no other medicine has done over the last 150 years of the ALS disease history: provide a multi-targeted approach to managing symptoms, improving quality of life and slowing the disease progression and terminal nature from one of 1000 days on average to a multi-year prognosis. But none of these factors matter, all that matters is, the source of the medicine, that they dont like it, so they wont fund us so that we can help people who are desperate in need. This weekend I was reminded, dont need your help anyways. These people havent stopped us over the last 8 years of our journey and they arent going to be stopping us now. There's a better money available, freedom money, and that is what we are going to choose. And after we have built Canada's biggest Life Science company and funder of R&D, I cant wait to revisit some of these conversations that I am having today. The regime is changing and I look forward to bringing you all along with us.
