Why do people seem to think that an RPG needs crazy levels of branching dialog, choice-and-consequence, novel-like writing and the like?
When CRPGs first came around, they were basically just games where you build a character and go through an adventure of some sort. It wasn't until Fallout and Baldur's Gate that you got the other stuff.
I feel that an RPG doesn't REQUIRE all of that to be a good RPG, but it seems like the majority of people think it's a must-have.

Something random I wish more game developers gave PC gamers:
The ability to pick what sort of controller glyphs we see.
I have a PS3-style DualShock clone but it's a generic brand and thus the controller glyphs on my games always default to the Xbox ones. I have a Logitech controller with Xbox glyphs but some games I like to play with that DualShock one... so, not having the ability to manually choose those for my session really sucks.
