There was discussion elsewhere around why #FantasticFour is doing surprisingly bad in terms of streaming views since it went to digital.
I don't speak for everyone, but personally I was disappointed in it.
I mean, that's weird to say, right? The production quality was absolutely there, it looked incredible, the cast was mostly pretty good, terrific music... The whole deal. It should have gone down in history, on paper.
But it almost felt a bit... TOO grounded? I never quite had the words to articulate the feeling of malaise orbiting this film, but that's a good start.
It felt like well-trodden ground, too -- we'd seen this story already in both the comics and the 2000s films. There should have been something not spoiled in the trailer. Instead, it's almost a straight shot to the credits.
It feels like a fire hose where someone is stepping on it, retarding it's potential.
You've gotten dressed up in a tux and high heels just to go to Arbys.
It's a film with the same energy birthed of the mediocrity of one's late middle age. (That's a weird one, admittedly, but I'm really enjoying how much it almost encapsulates things for me.)
