We are so back, but things will look a bit different...
In o...
This is a massive bummer. But it sounds like there were _reasons_. Not at all being privy to those details, I have to just trust there was, uh, motivation to make these changes (versus shutting it down). Catching up on some of the conversation in the thread...
Anyway, several years ago I, excitedly, was going to write a tool to capture POCSAG messages (mostly hospital pagers) over the air and stream them live online, off the radio. I was naive and excited at what a cool thing it was to decode them in general. And I wanted to share that magic with others.
I got to a certain point where I had a working proof of concept and was ready to put it online. But at a certain point I really looked hard at the data being passed around and realized a lot of this was really personal information that, while freely viewable by anyone in range with a radio and a decoder, it would probably be, if not illegal, at least super shitty. (I hadn't even thought about filtering numbers/etc. I was focused purely on the technical side at the time.)
With that context, none of the ACARS messages I've seen on the stream seemed anywhere near as sensitive as the pager messages I saw regularly... maybe I missed a couple that were, and that was enough to set off a complaint? 🤷
So yeah, a bummer, but I'm not going to be a baby about it. Just glad it's still here in some form, at least. ;)
