Blog Post: What Is Wolff Electronic Design?
Wolff Electronic Design is a high-agility engineering firm delivering advanced embedded systems across industries including medical, industrial, and consumer markets. Founded in 2009, we specialize in electronic design, firmware development, and system architecture—with deep expertise in communications protocols like USB, Bluetooth, BLE, 802.15.4, Matter, and legacy systems such as LonWorks.
Our team scales fast, deploying multiple engineers per project to handle platform ports, driver development, board bring-up, and full-stack embedded integration. We’re not a solo consultancy—we’re a coordinated engineering force capable of turning complex requirements into reliable, production-ready solutions. Whether it’s architecting a custom embedded platform or optimizing data flow between wireless modules and the cloud, we engineer the invisible backbone of modern electronic systems.
Type II below-the-line projects: wild ideas. We can help tame them into something useful. View Article →

Why Our U.S.-Based Engineering Matters
When developing cutting-edge equipment and designs, protecting your intellectual property (IP) is just as important as the technology itself.
At Wolff Electronic Design, we understand the risks you face when outsourcing engineering overseas. That’s why we keep everything right here in the USA—where your designs, trade secrets, and competitive edge are protected.
Here’s why that matters:
* U.S. Legal Protections for Your IP – Unlike many overseas firms, we operate under U.S. laws that safeguard your proprietary technology. Your innovations remain yours—without the risk of forced disclosures or unauthorized replication.
* No Foreign Government Interference – Foreign governments can require companies to disclose sensitive information—potentially handing over your hard-earned innovations to competitors. With Wolff Electronic Design, that risk doesn’t exist.
* A Trusted, Secure Engineering Partner – Our Wisconsin-based team follows reasonable efforts to protect client data, fostering transparency, compliance, and confidentiality at every step.
* Manufacturer Independence – Unlike many overseas outsourcing firms that lock clients into their own manufacturing networks, we design with your freedom in mind. Our solutions allow you to choose the manufacturer that best fits your needs—ensuring flexibility, cost control, and long-term scalability.
When you work with Wolff Electronic Design, you don’t just get expert engineering—you get peace of mind. Your designs stay secure, your innovations stay protected, and your business stays ahead.

One of the new approaches we took on our recent QP project was employing Test-Driven Development (TDD). To achieve this, we leveraged two libraries by @Matthew Eshleman of Cove Mountain Software which extend the CppUTest capabilities to support unit testing of QP Active Objects.
This approach worked well for us, especially since we were already using CppUTest for other testing needs.
Has anyone else used TDD with QP? How did you handle unit testing for your active objects?

Just completed my 3rd major project utilizing QP/QM, and it's reaffirmed the power of using these tools. The initial learning curve was steep, but with each project, I've delved deeper into QP/QM, learning from both the work and my colleagues. Surprisingly, I didn't stumble upon an existing LinkedIn group dedicated to QP/QM. Here's hoping this group becomes a hub for sharing experiences and best practices with these technologies. #quantumleaps #qp #qm
