The number of Indigenous people killed by the Portuguese was equal to, or even fewer than, that of the Spanish, as there was no more developed Indigenous civilization to oppose them more strongly. Therefore, the reason why there are not as many Indigenous people in Brazil as in Spanish countries is that there was a lot of European immigration and, in many cases, much more rapid miscegenation.
