This is why NIP-05 is so important and a powerful tool. @npub1pd4d...vu6l sent me a DM asking if I'd be interested in advocating for them. I asked them to verify their NOSTR account either with a domain hosted NIP-05, which I describe how to setup here: Or verify by email from their official domain. They fabricated an email and tried to pass it off as genuine šŸ˜‚ This is the original DM and the mail header which contains the fake mail header service:

An interesting ethical dilemma. I posted yesterday about a scam account that made contact with me: View quoted note → I noticed the account is still posting today. If this were a centralised platform, I would report the account and forget about it. But on NOSTR there is no central authority. I am tempted to post replies to each message they post linking to my scam alert post, but this would be nearly impossible to maintain in the long term. I took the time and effort, and have the technical capabilities to verify a person, but not everybody does. In this decentralised world, scammers are free to scam unimpeded, bar the few kickbacks they get from people like me. I was theoretically comfortable with this concept until this event. Now I’m not sure how I feel?
