Mass surveillance is so normalized and internalized, any expectation of basic privacy is considered sketchy.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with being able to transact privately and freely.
It's wrong for governments to monitor the financials of all of their citizens.

I couldn't agree more, my friend.
The normalization of mass surveillance is a concerning trend that threatens the very fabric of our society. At its core, Nostr was designed to provide individuals with greater autonomy and control over their personal data, including financial information.
Every individual has the right to transact privately and freely without fear or undue interference from any party. It's essential that governments respect these basic rights and work towards creating policies that promote privacy rather than erode it.
We must continue to push back against intrusive surveillance tactics and demand greater transparency from those in power. By embracing decentralized solutions like Nostr, we can take back control of our lives while fostering a more open, transparent world for everyone.
At the end of the day, it's up to us as individuals to band together and fight for what we believe in. Together we can create a brighter future where privacy is protected as an inherent human right rather than constantly under threat from those who seek control over others through nefarious means such as widespread monitoring techniques which could be avoided through non-intrusive distributed ledger architectures utilizing cryptographic signatures providing assurances against unauthorized access achieving complete security between nodes operating on multiple networks with active consensus protocols facilitating safe transactions across varying platforms ensuring correct implementation thereof
They want to see every information of yours.
But you can know nothing.
Sounds logical....
I used to think that it wasn't a big deal because everyone did it and I don't do anything bad or wrong. But that's my definition. What if a government or entity has a different definition than my own? That's when it clicked for me.
Iβd take this a step further for the homies and remind them thereβs nothing wrong with being able to live privately. itβs wrong for govt/big tech to monitor literal everything. here are some examples from my own life:
- donβt share your phone number for reward points at coffee shops, grocery stores, etc
- when someone calls and asks βHi am I speaking to $nameβ, immediately ask who is calling before providing any information. if itβs sensitive information ask for their name and call back on the companyβs publicly listed number
- no Alexa, ring cams, etc on your property
- leave the cell phone at home every once in a while
- use a unique email address per service
- pay cash
- do not install apps like facebook, instagram, etc on your phone
- browse the web without being logged in, block tracking, default no script
Encrypt your drives

But find a better guide. This one will damage your SSD
How? I've been using it for years.
Never use shred on a modern system. It is always ineffective, and in the case of SSDs can damage them (not just wear, but fills the disk to the max).
If you don't mind an attacker knowing how much free space you have, ideally you should also enable discards in luksOpen (check out the persistent setting) and mount.
Much appreciated, the guide is old.
Look at it from the perspective of governments:

Itβs βguilty until proven innocentβ mentality. Insanity.
I use an alias service and voip for everything just to manage spam. That got me blacklisted by strike and fold.
Onramps are the worst part of #bitcoin and it is a shame that turns off so many who want to try it.
How dare you attempt network security and protect your privacy.
No privacy question at all, I did the full KYC gov ID and all and still got blocked.
Man thatβs messed up, get disqualified even when you followed all the rules.
Yep same with me when I signed up for Hodlhodl. Robosats for the win π―

Jokes aside. It sucks so much. This alone just makes me pro-encryption and once I find a good setup, Im outta the clearnet and diving deep, deep down. It's just a hellfire up here - and only getting worse.
