Ah, i see your point. I think it is the other way around. Putin, according to Stoltenberg (i believe i can find his speech if you are interested), was looking for an agreement until a few months before the invasion, against the NATO expansion eastwards because he was concerned about Russia's safety (rightfully so i believe). NATO actually chose war (Stoltenberg's words were something like "of course we didn't agree"). Also do you remember Biden saying Russia will invade on 16 of February? On that date Ukraine started bombing again civilians on Donetsk. It still is a special military operation and not a full war. Russia tries to achieve its goals militarily while being open to peace negotiations and that is after the west didn't foloow the two Minsk agreements, the agreement about nuclear weapons etc. For me there is no comparison on this. It is the west that wants war. It is Russia that is open to peace.
I may cannot say the same for Sudan though...
