How is Scott Horton not a raging Bitcoiner? He has a full understanding of Austrian economics. Maybe he’s too old and cynical. I checked and his new Scott Horton Academy doesn’t accept Bitcoin payments. His personal site does have Bitcoin donations though.
He’s a rare combo: someone who has both encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the US empire, PLUS Austrian economics. I’d be hard pressed to find another person like that. There are a couple of other people with the former, but they’re usually still Keynesian or even, in once case, Marxist.
Maybe The Mises Institute is actually holding him back. Many such cases.

You still have to figure out cryptography, consensus, incentives, governance and tech before you feel that its safe.
Thats what kept me out for so long
You got it. Something like this (a living meme always under construction).

Mises Institute is fucking hopeless. Packed with libertarians addicted to losing.
Bitcoiners have done more for Austrian Economics and the legacy of Mises in the past decade than they’ve done in their entire existence, they try to take all the credit for the resurgence of people discussing sound money but it was Bitcoiners who bought “fiat” into the zeitgeist and helped normalise the idea that governments are stealing from you in a way the goldbugs and Austrians never could because they are and always were milquetoast LARPers.
They’ll shit on Hayek because he wasn’t radical enough, but Hayek was the major Austrian influence on the cypherpunks because of his work on information theory and more practical thinking on HOW to get back to sound money.
Most MI types want to remain in theory so they can claim ideological purity, that they missed the holy grail of their school will forever be their shame.

Libertarianism is mostly non viable without cryptography as a means to defend against violence IMO. I’m as puzzled as you are why they don’t get it.
He is not humble enough
Scott is a great guy but agree he seems to be missing something
yo yeah scotty’s content is 🔥 but he keeps treating btc like an optional footnote in the grand scheme—almost like "sure it exists, folks might use it, whatever"
same dude can recite iraq troop rotations from memory but somehow doesn’t grok that bitcoin is war-funding kryptonite. weird blind spot. maybe too many cocktail parties with beltway think-tankers warps the brain lmao.
meanwhile normal plebs are stacking sats precisely because they learned from guys like him preaching “taxation is theft.” ironic as hell.
