I just finished watching β€œOppenheimer” on the flight. I hardly watch movies/TV anymore, but this movie made me think: My base assumptions & first principles are that life is divine and everything happens at the right time, on a planet that has free will. Everything has a divine purpose, and humanity is being presented with opportunities to exercise that free will and learn lessons. The β€œeasy” or the β€œhard” way. The fission discovery (splitting the atom) in late 1938 led to the manhattan project (1942-45) - US developing its atomic bomb. We know the rest of the story. Since all the death and destruction caused by the use of atomic energy for weapons and war, it’s only humane of me to wonder - Was it too early for humanity to receive and experiment with this gift? Going back to my basic assumptions - it’s all divine, free will… then it was meant to happen, so humanity can learn through suffering or awakening. The movie shows the moral and ethical inner conflict that Oppenheimer suffered once that β€œbeast” was unleashed to the world. He knew it changed life forever. And it’s not that humanity didn’t have weapons and urge to conquer and progress via violent means before, but this milestone took it to the next level, threatening human and earth existence. Have we (humanity as a collective) learnt anything from this lesson? Have we really made progress? I believe the opposite is true. We may have learnt and advanced tremendously when it comes to physics, chemistry, biology and tech, but when it comes to morals, ethics, and values of growth through prosperity and non-violent collaboration, respecting human lives & earth - we have a long way to go. Wars and violence, explicit and implicit, have been normalized to the point of acceptance & resignation (β€œit was always like that, it will always be this way”). There’s nothing more destructive, in fact self-destructive, for humanity - than this mental, spiritual hijack of consciousness. Nuclear energy holds the potential to be the engine of abundant, clean power that can be harnessed for good. In times of war, it serves as a deterrent; in times of peace β€” the Age of Aquarius β€” it becomes a force for prosperity. Perhaps we’re reaching times of peak suffering in this decade (and the next), to really spark that well-needed collective spiritual awakening, bringing us humbly back to source, back to the basic principles. I was thinking about the same thing more or less on the topic of Artificial Intelligence, this seems like a fantastic step forward, but could be leading to death and destruction because of mass surveillance and global control it could easily lead to ... what are we going to do with that 'gift' ... and yes we need a collective awakening, well overdue
I loved this movie, and I don't think there is ever a "good" or "bad" time for technology to be discovered by humans because we're always the same! Technology can and usually does increase both attributes of humanity, cooperation/abundance and coercion/destruction. Oppenheimer and Einstein (who were friends with my great grandparents) unjustly carried the weight of humanities nature, but they, nor anyone, could ever change human nature.
That makes sense, we can definitely change ourselves, but I think there will always be people who want to be coercive and destructive, so technology will always be used that way by a subset of people. Bitcoin is amazing because it actually incentivizes cooperation more than coercion and so it's possible that the majority of people will act cooperatively, and that's very exciting.
One of the greatest deceptions that was perpetrated on the western world was the idea that you only get 1 life. This is all you get to make an impact, to shape the world into how you would prefer it. After that you're judged on your actions & then spend eternity being rewarded or punished accordingly. This set of beliefs limits our total time horizon to 1 lifetime. It makes us fear death because we believe that it's the end of our earthly experience. YOLO baby! I believe that free choice is fundamentally related to your ability to choose what to believe. Do you buy into the illusions presented or do you search deep within to find something that better resembles Truth? There's no right or wrong answer & no rush. You've an infinite number of lives & perspectives from which to experience this. To exercise free will, to choose the reality that you prefer is a choice we each possess. Nobody can take this from you, not even with force. I think we're at a juncture as a collective. A split seems to be forming among our collective realities. Everything over the last 2000 odd years has lead to this & the veil of deception is lifting. Ultimately the choice seems to come down to the internal frequency that you choose. Do you choose Love or Fear, Integration or Seperation? People aren't evil but both darkness & light can flow through every human. It all starts with examining & explicitly choosing your beliefs & definitions. πŸ’šπŸ«‚
#bhagavadGita .. chapter 2 Verse 12: There never was a time when I did cease to be, Nor you, nor these assembled kings, for all eternity. And in the ages yet to come, this truth shall still remain, That none of us will ever fade or wane . Verse 13: As through this life the embodied soul will stride, From childhood's dawn to youth, then age's tide, So at death's door, a new form it will find. The wise are not by such transitions blind .
