A 23-year-old man in China won a “lying-flat” contest after staying on a mattress for an impressive 33 hours and 35 minutes. The competition, held at a shopping centre in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, was sponsored by a local mattress brand and livestreamed to millions of viewers.
The event takes inspiration from the popular “lying flat” (tang ping) movement among Chinese youth, which represents pushing back against overwork and rising social pressures.
