ChapSmart and Branta
ChapSmart serves Tanzanians abroad and natively by allowing people to send money to Tanzania using Bitcoin transactions. ChapSmart disburses in TZS via M-PESA for family, bills, or other needs. ChapSmart currently offers functionality for Lightning Payments and Bitcoin On-Chain transactions. Once ChapSmart receives a payment, funds are converted to TZS and then sent to the recipient’s mobile money account. ChapSmart also offers airtime top-ups, allowing users to purchase mobile credit directly with Bitcoin.

Branta is Bitcoin infrastructure used to mitigate risk before sending any Bitcoin transactions. Since Bitcoin transactions are irreversible, focusing on ensuring risk is eliminated is vital for the protection of assets. By acting as a vector for triangulated security, Branta provides an additional shield of verification that prevents man-in-the-middle or address swap attacks. Branta also utilizes Zero-Knowledge framework during the verification process, meaning that wallet addresses stay private. ChapSmart Scaling and Looking Forward
As of December 23, 2025, ChapSmart had processed 547 total transactions with 107 unique users interacting with the platform, totalling 16,187,149 sats sent. 2025 numbers are reported while noting that it was not until April 27th that BitRemit, the automated global-to-Tanzania remittances via Bitcoin Lightning, was launched.
Instant remittances that bypass the traditional high-fee systems help bring financial freedom to Tanzanian citizens, and ChapSmart growth projects consistent adoption and increased volume going forward. ChapSmart’s growth occurs in parallel with the growth and development of Tanzania.
Additionally, on 5th February 2026, ChapSmart will launch a Merchant Program that will help merchants open their own stores on BTCPay through ChapSmart. Merchants will not need to install, manage, or run their own BTCPay Server, as ChapSmart will provide and maintain the infrastructure for them. This will allow merchants to start accepting Bitcoin easily without technical complexity. ChapSmart will also provide education to merchants about Branta and the security it brings to Bitcoin transactions. This product addition aims to significantly increase the number of merchants accepting Bitcoin across East Africa.
