Introducing Downloadable Forms: Your Form, Forever

Formstr now lets users download any form as a standalone HTML file, giving them complete ownership and independence from formstr.app. The form remains fully functional — including encryption and submission to Nostr relays — with no backend, no hosting dependency, and no internet required (until submission). This update supports offline use, self-hosting, censorship resistance, and long-term preservation of forms. It aligns with Formstr’s mission to minimize central points of failure and maximize user sovereignty. Unlike most traditional form builders, Formstr is the only known platform offering a fully portable, encrypted, Nostr-native form experience. Try it now at formstr.app.

Formstr is adding a unique new feature you don't see anywhere, which is why we had to write a whole article to explain to you what it is.

You can now download any form as a standalone HTML file.

That means your form lives in a single file you can open locally, share directly, host anywhere, or archive. It continues to work just like it does on Formstr — encrypting and submitting responses to Nostr relays.

You don’t need formstr.app to keep it alive.
As long as relays exist, your form does too.

đź’ľ The Feature: Downloadable Forms

With this update, you can:

  • Export your form as a single .html file
  • Open and use it offline or locally
  • Share it via any channel — email, USB, Torrents
  • Host it anywhere — your own website, GitHub Pages, etc.
  • Still submit responses to relays — no backend required

The form is yours. The file is yours. It keeps working.

✍️ How To Use It

  1. Go to formstr.app
  2. Create or open a form
  3. Click the “⋮” on the dashboard menu cards.
  4. Select “Download”
  5. The file gets automatically downloaded https://imghost.net/ib/mALdDsvTIlLkwOF_1751029808.png https://imghost.net/ib/Fu6KfooTFw6vv8t_1751029674.png You can open it in any modern browser. The form will load instantly — and behave exactly as it does on the main site.

No internet required until submission. No calls to formstr.app. Just one file.

🧪 Use Cases

  • Offline-first: Take forms into places with limited or no connectivity
  • Self-hosted forms: Put them on your own domain or static site
  • Censorship resistance: Share via email, chat, torrent or peer-to-peer methods
  • Backups: Keep permanent copies of all your forms
  • Remixing: Tweak styles or layouts without breaking core logic

Everything happens client-side. You’re in full control.

🧠 Your Form, Forever

This feature is about more than convenience.

It’s about reducing dependencies — even on us.
It’s about building tools that are hard to kill, forkable, portable, and persistent.

Formstr lets you publish forms to the open web via Nostr.
Now it lets you take those forms with you — wherever, however, forever.

đź”— Try It Now

  • Create or open a form at formstr.app
  • Click “Download”
  • Open the file and submit — same experience, zero dependencies
