Exploring the Fediverse: Friendica, Defcon.social, and My Travel Stories

I share my travel photos and stories on the Fediverse, an open and decentralized social network where one account can connect across multiple platforms. I recommend Friendica.world for privacy and flexibility, and Defcon.social (a Mastodon server) for easy sharing and higher image limits. With apps like Fedilab and Tusky, you can follow me and others across networks without being locked into a single platform. More freedom, more openness, and full control over your social experience.

Hi everyone! 🌍✨

I’ve started sharing my travel photos and stories on the Fediverse, a network of open, decentralized social platforms. Unlike traditional social media where one company controls everything, the Fediverse gives you freedom, privacy, and connection across multiple networks.

Friendica world

Friendica is a decentralized platform where you control your data and privacy. On Friendica, you can follow and interact with users on many networks — Mastodon, Pixelfed, Diaspora, and more — all from one account.

To get started on Friendica:

  1. Register on friendica.world
  2. Install the Android client Fedilab (my favorite for Friendica), or choose another compatible app.
  3. Follow me at @rubenstorm@friendica.world to see my travel updates.

Friendica is great for:

  • Privacy and ad-free social experience
  • Flexible control over who sees your posts
  • Connecting with multiple networks at once

Defcon social

Defcon.social is a Mastodon server with even more flexibility for sharing:

  • Higher image posting limits
  • Open viewing for images without restrictions

Compatible with apps like Tusky (simple and reliable) and Fedilab (feature-rich, supports multiple Fediverse networks)

You can follow me there at @rubenstorm@defcon.social, or via these other accounts across the Fediverse:

@rubenstorm@sakurajima.social @rubenstorm@pixelfed.one @rubenstorm@friendica.world

How the Fediverse Works

Here’s a simple way to think about it:

On centralized platforms like Facebook, you might think you could follow someone on Instagram or TikTok without an account there… but nope, you can’t. In the Fediverse, though? One account lets you follow and interact with users across multiple networks seamlessly — freedom, openness, and connection all in one place.

Mobile Apps / Clients

Tusky → Great for Mastodon. Simple, reliable, easy to use.

Fedilab → Supports Mastodon, Friendica, and other networks. Offers posting images, reading multiple timelines, and notifications.

Both apps allow you to manage your accounts and interact across platforms without juggling multiple logins.

Why You Should Join

  • Freedom & openness — not locked into one platform
  • Privacy & data control — no ads or tracking
  • Community & connections — follow users across Mastodon, Friendica, Pixelfed, and more

If you want to see my travel photos and stories firsthand, join me on the Fediverse:

  1. Friendica.world → @rubenstorm@friendica.world
  2. Defcon.social → @rubenstorm@defcon.social
  3. Or follow me across other accounts above

💡 You’ll get the full experience with apps like Fedilab or Tusky, and you’ll see why the decentralized world is so much more flexible and open than traditional social media. 🌐✈️📸
