I’m reading a book on the history of the telegraph. Seemingly back in 1859 there was telegraph slang, and people were telegraphing each other ‘GM’ for good morning lol. Thomas Edison and Andrew Carnegie both got their starts as telegraph boys. They would have been carrying around GMs for and between people.
