You would think, with Stanford and Cal in the middle of Silicon Valley, they’d be able to set a new course for “affiliated independent” schools in the west who can do streaming deals to fund their athletic programs.
People forget that it isn’t just football. Baseball, gymnastics, golf, rowing … they will all have to travel to the East Coast if these schools join the ACC.
Student athletes unlikely to go pro (like swimmers) aren’t going to benefit from flying to the east coast to compete in most of their meets. And there isn’t enough football TV revenue to cover it.
