It's funny that circumcision is often considered Jewish in origin when, outside the books of Moses, which was only oral until a few hundred years before Christ, there's not much evidence Jews did this. I think it probably started in the Maccabean period as an opposition to the Greek empire. References to it in verifiably older material is missing, just like emphasis on Moses is, but we do know that other people in the Middle East adjacent world circumcised.
