Whenever I say something critical about "AI" there is - given my rather general resistance - the (valid) question what kind of cases could be considered a) "good" use cases that are b) actually worth the environmental cost.
@Prof. Emily M. Bender(she/her) did a very good webinar about that question way back in 2023.
She explains what (L)LMs are, what harms they always bring and what - if ever - (very) limited use cases could actually be considered given it's technical limitations.

Most people I know are fighting severe anxiety about their individual and our collective future right now, struggling to picture a life worth of planning. It is paralysing, also for me.
It is also a lie. Not that reality isn't grim (ignoring that will only make things worse) but the paralysis is. No one of us wanted to live through the return of fascism. But here we are. And we can make our lifes count no matter the circumstances.

Starting this month, I will be working part-time for a year (and lose half of a year's income) to be able to co-author a book (released Q2/2026).
The privilege to do that is enormous and is only possible because I am well-paid and childless.
So much inspiration and creativity is lost to the systemic poverty forced on the many to enrich the few (who keep spewing out books and media content to ideologically justify their status in return).
