Pessimist: what’s happening right now in the US is like 1930s in Germany! 😱 Optimist: what’s happening right now is like France in the 1780s! 😈
Took myself on a date to a concert and had a fucking great time! My date (me) had great taste in music, danced like no one was watching, and showed me a great time. She’s pretty awesome.
Wanna help #TransYouth in the US right now? Donate to help us buy gender-affirming items for them! Our org's GenderJunk program has seen a huge jump in demand for gender-affirming items, and we need help to expand our capacity. Our program purchases and sends gender-affirming items to trans, non-binary, and gender diverse youth (age 30 and under) for FREE to those that can't afford it or lack family support. This includes everything from binders to makeup to wigs to packers and STPs! With medical transition becoming increasingly hard to access, gender-affirming items are a life-changing support to those in need right now. https://secure.givelively.org/donate/transfamily-support-services #Trans #Transgender #ProtectTransYouth #TransKids #Queer image
Seeking #trans advice: for those that have trouble confronting authority, how do you access a "punk rock" attitude towards trans-hostile authorities? I've been chewing on this. For me, I have always had problems with authority figures and the idea of sticking it to the Man always gets me fired up. Going punk rock on something is exactly what I want to do. Talking back to authority is something I've done since I was in grade school! But I know a lot of people don't like confrontation or want to follow instructions and do what they're told by nature or nurture. Some folks have trauma with speaking up. Some folks are much more hippy dippy by nature and just prefer the good vibes...and the current situation really wears them down. So, if you're more peace and love, and less punk rock, what has given you strength and power in these days? How would you suggest inspiring and supporting others in their power who are like that?
Friends, I have a favor to ask: please start doing something to help the trans community. One of my mentors finally said it to me today: when you step back, you give someone else the opportunity to step up. My dayjob allows me to do things that most folks never get a chance to do to help and make a difference. This is where I can do the most with what limited time and energy I have. But I still feel like I'm falling short, because there is so much work that needs doing right now to take care of each other or that allies can do to help out. So please, if you are cis and care, get involved in the local groups that are organizing to push back and resist the attacks on trans and queer folks. Help organize a fundraiser for your local LGBTQ center. Get involved in local organizations like PFLAG or GLSEN where you can help push local school boards, city councils, and others to make a difference. If you are trans, we all gotta step up to care for each other right now. I need others to step up and help with the emotional labor we give each other - reach out and make yourself actively available to talk to and support. Organize a local trans potluck and get folks talking about what you can do to make a difference. Have whatever queer friends you know over for a game night and start building up connections. I know we are all struggling right now, but I am pushing myself too far and need to step back more. Please, take this opportunity and step up my friends. πŸ’–
