The 2025 Neil festive tech support problem of choice is... "Smart" TVs abandoned by their manufacturer. For shame. The only realistic solution is to disconnect it permanently from the Internet, and use a separate media streaming device. (I mean, that was always the way, but it seems thay some people did make use of their TV's integrated "smart" features.)

New blogpost: "A proposed legislative amendment to attempt to ban under 16s in the UK from common messaging services, sharing family photos, using Wikipedia, and doing much else online, by imposing age assurance on everyone" I'd have my head in my hands, if that didn't make typing rather tricky. Today's #FreeSoftwareAdvent is text-mode web browser, links. Because, sometimes, I just want to be able to browse without all the cruft of the modern web. I find browsing with links more relaxing, with fewer distractions and annoyances, although it is not a good choice for some sites. You don't have to stop using your current GUI browser to give links, or another text-mode browser, a try :) Bonus: no-one is trying to force AI into it. image
