Today's mastodon.social update brings some improvements to the video player in Mastodon's web app. You can double-tap the video to enter and exit full screen, the controls will disappear once your mouse stops moving, and a new indicator will show you which function you triggered when you press a hotkey (like "m" to mute or "arrow up" to increase volume).
I have to say, I am really disappointed Devin Townsend's #TheMoth featured AI-generated art projections. They were uncanny and distracting at best even if you look past the ethics of it. And now it's occupying my mind and distracting me from talking about the actual music of his 10 years in the making project...
Another portrait. Two Arri tungsten lights, one at 90Β° with a softbox and one at 45Β° without, but aiming at the hair. No gels this time. There was also a reflector but I forgot to move it for this pose so it's kind of irrelevant. πŸ“· Pentax 6x7 🎞️ Kodak Portra 160 πŸ” Super Takumar 105mm/2.4 πŸ‘€ @npub1d495...6zn5 βš— Spieker Film Lab #BelieveInFilm #FilmPhotography #AnalogPhotography #MediumFormat image
You can hardly find a studio the works of which are so thoughtful, kind, and intentional as Studio Ghibli. To stripmine that for its aesthetics, to take a piece of cardboard and paint it like food and say "See, doesn't this taste just as good?" is more than missing the point, it's barbaric, dystopian. It's an insult to life itself. #OpenAI
In today's mastodon.social update we have significantly improved the media overlay in Mastodon's web app. You can double-tap to zoom in and out instead of clicking the 1:1 button, and panning and pinch-to-zoom work a lot smoother on touch devices. You can also finally swipe up or down to close the overlay.
I'm a bit curious how other people engage with photography and art on #Mastodon. Do you typically click the 1:1 button on the media modal and admire pictures in full resolution?
Someone reminded me today 9 years ago I submitted my first post on Mastodonβ€”using curl on the command line, since there was no interface at the time. That's how the journey began! 9 years is a long time to be doing something. Those early years are still fresh in my mind though.

I wanted to see if I can recreate ChΓ© Aimee Dorval's album cover for The Widow. I used my two Arri tungsten lights, one 300W with a blue gel, and one 650W with a red gel and a softbox. πŸ“· Pentax 6x7 🎞️ Kodak Portra 160 πŸ” Super Takumar 105mm/2.4 πŸ‘€ Wife βš— Spieker Film Lab #BelieveInFilm #FilmPhotography #AnalogPhotography #MediumFormat image
