Most people have no idea what’s in an epidural. They hear the word “relief” and stop asking questions. What if I told you epidurals contain fentanyl? Would you still say yes, just because your doctor told you to? When you choose one, your baby is born under the influence of opioids, before they even take their first breath. Would you still let the doctor inject that? We’ve normalized drugging women in labor and calling it empowerment. But what does that actually mean for the baby? Their first breath, first moment in the world, and they’re already exposed to drugs. Disconnected. Numb. Dazed. Is that the kind of welcome we’d consciously choose? Birth is meant to be a moment of full presence. Full connection. Yet most babies are entering the world in a state of detachment before they’ve even opened their eyes. Then we wonder why we’re so disconnected as a culture. My intention isn’t to make women feel guilty. It’s to wake us up. To bring truth to the surface. We pass on more than genetics. We pass on energy, emotion, awareness. The way a baby is born matters. It imprints them. It shapes how they experience life, safety, and love. So I ask you, what kind of imprint are we passing on? If we want our children to be grounded, connected, and whole, we have to give them a birth experience that reflects that. Presence. Safety. Trust. It starts with us.
