There were some lovely reflections in Loch Glascarnoch today. We went looking for some sunshine and weren't disappointed. #Reflections #ScottishHighlands
I don't think Skye was impressed with that weather especially as it was heading for us. Overall the weather wasn't bad. Bit windy over the col of Drochaid Allt Toll Ghiubhais to really hang around otherwise the sunshine was still quite warm. #DogsOfMastodon #ScottishHighlands image
We had a good stroll from the Red Hut, now painted green, to Loch na h-Oidhche. As I was taking a photo Wendy and her dog Cuillin caught me up and we ended up walking much of the day together. She'd forgotten to bring Cuilin's biscuits so Skye shared her lunch, which went down very well. There was a fair breeze coming off the loch making it feel pretty cold. Of course Skye had a good paddle. #ScottishHighlands #DogsOfMastodon
We went for a walk along the track on the far side of Loch Glascarnoch this morning. A bit misty and dull but nice to get out. Lots of motorcycles screaming along the road, their overtakes making other vehicles look like they were standing still. Later, at the first bend after Braemore Junction a bike is embedded in the crash barrier. Police and ambulance doing their thing. Not surprised as them and car clubs treat the Highlands as a race track.
Ah, the A82 alongside Loch Ness such a 'joy' driving it. Come up behind a queue of vehicles doing 40mph. Car at the head of queue decides they'll just stop in the carriageway, in the many wiggles. One car gets by and they set off again doing more like 50+ only to straddle the white line! A bit further on they drift into a layby on the other side and almost forget to stop. And that wasn't the only bad driving.
We went for a walk today, up that hill - Gairich. I don't think I've encountered such a soggy, squelching, sinky, sucking, boggy walk in before. Even worse than when I tried it in the spring. Ah well it worked out okay, we got tired, we got wet and muddy. Skye scrambled up the impressive scrambly bit in one go. Thought she was going to fail and hop back down but she obviously found a bit of confidence and went for it. More photos later when I've recovered a bit! image
Ah, the unmistakeable Devil's Point and Corrour bothy. In Gàidhlig it is Bod an Deamhain meaning the penis of the demon or devil. It lies at the southern end of the high ground from Braeriach in the north. 8km of rough high ground between also takes in Sgòr an Lochain Uaine and Càrn t-Sabhail. Only at the col before the Devil's Point does it drop below 1100m and then only to 915m - still munro height! #Cairngorms #ScottishHighlands image
And another snap from Sunday. I rather like this. It's just a scene, no real subject, the path winding along through the grass and heather. It reminds me of the peace I can still find walking amongst the hills, as when on them. In the distance is Braeriach, in Gàidhlig it's Bràigh Riabhach meaning the grey speckled upland. The big scoop from it's face is Coire Bhrochain. #Cairngorms #ScottishHighlands image
