Zero concrete architecture in Japan. Villa Boso, an raised office with traditional wooden yoroikabe cladding and an interesting floor truss system. Not ideal in an any way but it is interesting that even architects are willing to look beyond concrete. The base is a steel pile take on traditional Japanese foundations. It looks to be well built to resist earthquakes. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/6d4845eecb789db3895273ac47b5bd25a973e9a2ac3a2fa094b74471453ffc8d.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/6fa9f7799b0364c2bdb0cff854d2073e7de203c2c824f2d0a383af13590e6c1c.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/6c47462cc7c1792e25956b46634141cf921631304d79e1299758831b4b1ed4d9.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/1bc69b370278ae35983ce7961dfb353d21c6793e5a2d8208e67b72530fe207c9.file
A 1922 brick building with a glazed terracotta cladding. All of it factory made. Louis Sullivan might be gone but we can easily copy and mass produce his designs. Terracotta is cheap and easily manufactured by small local factories and artisans. We used to have catalogs where you could order the exact facade you wanted and hire a local worker to put it up on your steel frame, brick front, timber frame, rammed earth, cob, stone, adobe or straw bale building. We can do this again. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/d6f18894cfdfe28562e328056219aa59b9228054e02e7d5c95e003ebc8bb5baf.file
According to legend, the Chinese Princess Wencheng (620-682) created this map of Tibet as it was being prepared for Buddhism. A female demon is laying on her back with twelve major temples (called "subjugation temples") pinning her joints, hands, feet and heart to the ground, in order to keep her from wrecking havoc on the land. Almost all of these temple were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution but have since been more or less rebuilt. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/6dfdd5fc777a3d614010739ce7b471c7c4e9cafc10b81cdbbba89adacd1146ba.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/1daa99c78077436f843bfa9dc0b64653405497316d93a841b79e3b2d44ec87fd.file
Maybe important for people in New Zealand. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/6434e6a34f9a13eb105029a08428c69cb53e77204949f742ff678b77eb29d372.file
I have avoided mentioning it because I don't want to see it overrun by tourists, but fans of the Silent Hill game series might be interested in the town of Hida-Kanayama in Gifu Prefecture Japan, which is the inspiration of the 2025 Silent Hill f video game location (called Ebisugaoka in the game). It is like a time capsule of a generic Japanese mountain town, slowly deteriorating and nothing gets replaced or repaired. There is absolutely nothing to do there but it is one of the most singular but decayed urban settings in Japan. I was there last time early summer 2025. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/0ae7d0a77442ce2636b169cde6522fd022162ab064229b2a576810f452289321.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/2a8692663e75dbd4b503a07719cdd93a43dec7b4294414a663e987cf56c2fbfb.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/8190e7d2ebe7f061820888de604ecee846705aebdfec55e69742456a41199c5c.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/046bec5aabe237f3ab3c05dd17c97e9243866fa7529036809d47bbf10fa58848.file
I am interested in the traditional Niscemi townhouse, lucali, do I have any followers in Sicily who might have photos?
And to continue: note that the Mayor of Surrey, Canada, is making her plea to "higher authorities" on Twitter as the most efficient way to rapidly reach a lot of people without interference from corrupt officials or ideological off-limits regular mass media. This is a sort of last resort measure or SOS call that we have seen so much of at this site. Thank you once again @elonmusk
This will of course become the norm all over the developed world until the system collapses. And everyone knows there is a simple two step solution and could spell it out in their sleep but we are not allowed to talk about it. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/c961a5d5c833a0af630d644365c4c84f83ac0e064a2eee897ffda08bd7be0dee.file
The city of Niscemi on southern Sicily is in the news due to the recent landslide that forced 1,500 to be evacuated. This is by no means the end of the city, which has a population of 24,600 and has been trough far worse national calamities. Niscemi is also home of some stellar traditional stone streets and a beautiful main square. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/0ccdd14b94b1febe643243fb84ba9eb0bceaa7c829991fa64b957bccf2e8f170.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/011bfb3e306c74a1aacd67c6fba074dc89a7063035296a95cc462a391e67bced.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/34d5c131c2895a2fd775b2d57a0b9c6a9a2c8cbd1630a306f43c6a67aee207ea.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/57032983bed744c33ccd089eb7e7899fd3d599291da0552e33bda3c511154528.file
You can measure the level of independent thinking (and conversely the level of indoctrination) inversely by how closely their interests and opinions match those of the respectable mass media of the day. No rational human being would be able to independently form or verify the opinions and viewpoints we are asked to take for granted today. And you have not even begun to consider the opinions of 2027 that you will be asked to endorse with even more ardor than those of 2026 or the outdated shocking anachronisms of 2025.
