For instance, spotify will net songs to -14 LUFS.
So when mastering does this mean you should aim for -14 LUFS?
As an artist AND a mixing/mastering engineer I will tell you the answer is no!
This is one of the first things I did as a beginner producer, set my levels to -14 and boom, ready to release! Yet my songs still weren't coming in as loud as professional studio made tracks.
So what level should you aim for? Really its all about preference, the type of track being released, and most importantly-
HOW LOUD CAN YOU MAKE IT BEFORE THERES DISTORTION?
But really it all comes down to mixing. A good mix will result in a great master. I would say, in my professional opinion, somewhere around -8 LUFS would be a good place to start. and always always always keep it under -0.1 true peak volume! #noclipgang
