🇩🇪Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND, foreign intelligence) may receive broader powers, which would, among other things, allow its officers to carry out acts of sabotage abroad.
This follows from a draft bill prepared by the German Chancellery.
The new powers would allow the BND to respond to foreign hacker attacks on German infrastructure, process large volumes of data using artificial intelligence, and utilize facial recognition technology.
The bill also proposes that BND agents would be able to break into apartments without a court order and install specialized surveillance equipment.
The BND would only receive such broad powers in exceptional cases, for example, if security and order in Germany or an allied state are under immediate threat, according to the bill.
Currently, the BND primarily focuses on intelligence activities, collecting and analyzing information.
The new powers would transform the BND into a fully-fledged intelligence agency capable of conducting special operations.
In East Germany they called Stasi and were hated, so it seem's the time is now for Stasi 2.0
