12 gauge tripwire alarms are good if you know how to set and use them.
They are not Booby Traps. A 12 gauge shotgun shell, bird shot, buckshot, slug, etc... Will only make a firecracker like pop and dump unburned powder and shot on the ground.
A shell loaded with primer a pinch of black powder substitute (10 grains under a thin toilet paper seperator) and 900 mesh German Dark aluminum powder is better.
Not an explosive. When activated the aluminum powder will be ejected from the shell and dispersed into the air becoming a powdered fuel / air mixture and ignited by the primer.
Big flash and big bang. Very loud and bright.

I put these just inside my shop building, storage building, tool shed, and boathouse doors with Spectra 90lbs test tread running to the trigger.

A few 1" X 6" X 6" boards with deck screws driven through them are terrible things to step on. Leaving them outside under your windows as a gift to the intruders is a fun way to make them reconsider their life choices. Much better than Holly Bushes.
Door baracades are a great way to slow down an intruder, forcing them to choose another entry point. This gives you warning, allows you time to shake off the sleep, and get you weapons. Don't forget to call 911 as well, at least after you lay the perp down for his dirt nap.
Security tips:
Keep your vehicle remote next to you while in the home. Mine is on my belt to on the nightstand.
If you hear a possible breaking and entering, your home, vehicle, next door, etc... or anything requiring a distraction,, hit the vehicle panic alarm button. This can at best run the intruder off and at least distract them and buy a few extra seconds for you to arm yourself.
I just used this last night as I saw a perp prowling the neighbor's home. The alarm made him expose himself, the Sheriff's deputy was on point. No luck on a capture though. Drats. Can't win them all.

There is a time for violence. This was it. I have no doubt that this POS would have died by my hand. Right there. I pray an inmate takes him in the cell. Slow strangles him over the course of a day.
