This perspective highlights a rift with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who remains committed to the war in Gaza with the stated goal of destroying Hamas' capabilities. This discord follows Netanyahu's dissolution of his war Cabinet after Benny Gantz's resignation and underscores the lack of a clear postwar plan for Gaza, a point of criticism from both domestic and international observers. The conflict, ongoing for 257 days, has seen significant casualties and global criticism, with the United States expressing skepticism about the feasibility of fully eliminating Hamas. (NBC News) 2. Vietnam values its historic ties with Russia and maintains a complex diplomatic stance by abstaining from UN resolutions condemning Russia while fostering relationships with both Ukraine and Western nations. As Vietnam continues its "bamboo diplomacy," balancing relationships without formal alliances, it remains to be seen how long it will maintain its camaraderie with Putin, given its gradual shift away from reliance on Russian military equipment and internal political shifts. The legislation, part of a conservative agenda pushed by the GOP-dominated Legislature, requires posters with the Ten Commandments in "large, easily readable font" and a context statement detailing their historical significance, to be in place by the start of 2025, funded through donations. Opponents argue the law is unconstitutional and violates the separation of church and state, setting up a likely challenge in court. Proponents claim the measure has historical importance and serves as a moral foundation, reflecting broader conservative efforts within the state. Bitcoin Holdings Raise Questions: The increasing bitcoin holdings by major institutions like BlackRock and Fidelity, nearing 500,000 bitcoins, have stirred concerns within the crypto community. In a discussion on "The Wolf of All Streets" podcast, Austin Arnold from Altcoin Daily highlighted the inevitability of institutional involvement for mass adoption, noting that bitcoin's current price around $65,000 is seen as de-risked due to regulatory clarity and the approval of bitcoin ETFs by the U.S. SEC. Arnold emphasized the global reach of these ETFs and their political significance, suggesting they reflect growing international and political interest in bitcoin. While concerns about market manipulation persist, Arnold reassured that the bitcoins held by these ETFs are custodied for clients, not directly controlled by the institutions, underscoring the need for retail investor education. (The Street) -Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC)- NSTR -Economic Indicators- 1.: US Economy Showing More Weakness: The U.S. economy is showing signs of weakness as consumer spending, a crucial driver of growth, begins to slow amid persistent inflation and a softening job market. Retail sales saw only a modest gain in May, with downward revisions for March and April, raising concerns about a potential slowdown. Inflation continues to pressure spending despite high interest rates, and declining sales in key sectors like gasoline and home furnishings indicate consumer belt-tightening. Additionally, signs of a weakening labor market, with reduced wage premiums and potential declines in hiring, suggest challenges ahead for maintaining economic momentum. (The Street) 2. BoE Claims 2% Inflation Victory: UK inflation reached the Bank of England's 2% target in May for the first time since 2021, though underlying price pressures remain strong, potentially delaying any pre-election interest rate cuts. Services price inflation, a key indicator for the BoE, was at 5.7%, higher than expected, suggesting ongoing inflationary risks. The drop in headline inflation from 2.3% in April was significant but came too late to influence upcoming elections or prompt a rate cut. Despite the inflation drop, driven by lower energy bills and food prices, the BoE is cautious about cutting rates due to persistent domestic price pressures and elevated pay growth. Despite some bearish arguments, analysts point to the increasing comfort with ETF liquidity and the potential for substantial advisor-driven demand. The document, distributed by Unit 8200 on September 19, 2023, outlined Hamas's exercises for raiding Israeli military posts and kidnapping civilians but was not properly processed or escalated to senior officials. This oversight became evident when the document was discovered by a Gaza Division intelligence officer on October 1, who failed to inform senior commanders. The mishandling of this critical information, despite its importance being known to top intelligence leadership, is being investigated, with initial findings expected to be presented to the Chief of Staff soon. This plan would provide protection and work permits to eligible individuals. The plan, announced during an event marking the 12th anniversary of the DACA program, looks to rouse support for the President in an election year which sees Hispanic support moving towards the GOP. Republicans have criticized the plan as a "mass amnesty," while advocates believe it will energize support for Biden's reelection. (AP)   2. The fire has destroyed or damaged over 500 structures, and strong winds continue to challenge firefighting efforts. Many evacuees have fled to nearby Roswell. The governor has deployed National Guard troops and a top-level fire management team to the area, emphasizing the ongoing danger as the fires, which have burned over 31 square miles, remain uncontained. Nieuwenhuijs suggests that the Bank's persistent gold purchases are aimed at addressing trade imbalances through the Mbridge project, a CBDC-driven cross-border settlement system. Thailand has been a net importer of gold since October 2023, with purchases continuing despite varying gold prices. This move aligns with the recent bilateral currency agreement with China and aims to stabilize the new trading system by recycling surpluses into gold, promoting de-dollarization. (BitcoinCom)   -Economic Indicators- 1. US Budget Deficit Continues to Rise: The U.S. budget deficit for fiscal 2024 is projected to rise to $1.915 trillion, primarily due to increased spending on student loan relief, Medicaid, bank failure resolutions, and aid to Ukraine and Israel. This marks a 27% increase over previous estimates and follows a significant deficit from the previous year. The Congressional Budget Office also predicts the deficit will further increase to $1.938 trillion in fiscal 2025. Contributing factors include legislative changes and rising interest and healthcare costs, despite a stronger economic outlook and reduced long-term deficits from increased immigration. (Reuters)   2. Business Bankruptcies and Closures Increase: Amid rising inflation, an increasing number of companies are declaring bankruptcy and closing operations, leading to nearly 3,200 store closures in 2024, according to CoreSight Research. This represents a 24% increase from the previous year, with notable closures from retailers such as Family Dollar, Tupperware, Rue21, and 99 Cents Only. The economic strain is compounded by retail theft, higher operating costs, and a surge in consumer debt, with credit card delinquencies on the rise. Last week Foreign Policy put out an essay called "Don’t Bet Against the Dollar", which has similar observations and analysis. The interesting point is that both articles are free, when articles from these publications are often behind a paywall. Both seem very well-written from economists and on the surface well-balanced. They are good reads for understanding the dynamics of global currency power and why the USD continues its lead among others. They do seem, however, to be stuck in a paradigm that has proven true over the last 60 years and is subject to change. They mention Bitcoin and stablecurrencies and the increasing power they hold, but heavily discount their rise against the dollar. It is certainly contentious when making analysis of a complicated subject as world currency, but the historical bias of USD leadership in the articles should draw suspicion either from narrative influence or change-denial perspectives. Fear(0)/Greed(100) Index: 70/100 (Down 2 pts) Analyst Comments (AC): Although much is happening globally this week, the tectonic shift is the de-dollarization of global trade, mostly in oil. The events may not result in overnight financial chaos, but it nonetheless marks the end of an era started in the early 1970's, borne of oil shocks and global maneuvering for economic power. The 50-year agreement between the US and Saudi Arabia (eventually OPEC) led to a promise to transact only in US dollars in exchange for Saudi defense. Not only has this agreement ended this month, but Saudi Arabia has announced the acceptance of many other currencies for oil as well as participation in China's MBridge wholesale CBDC program. This MBridge CBDC will likely become a new leader in cross-border currency exchange and taken up by BRICS. As the world's current leader in global exchange, we shouldn't expect the US to instantly lose global economic hegemony, but the pieces are coming into place to ensure this does happen. How fast is the question. The consequences are uncertain, but the power yielded by US administrations in the global sphere will certainly lesson to manipulate world affairs so directly.
