On this day in 1978, the AC/DC single
“Let There Be Rock” debuted on the Australian charts at #82 (February 6)
Surprisingly for such a brilliant rock song, “Let There Be Rock” never got any higher on the Australian charts than #82, and never charted anywhere else in the world!
That’s nuts!
Despite that though, the song has gone down in history as a dead set AC/DC classic and crowd favourite.
The classic music video for "Let There Be Rock" with Bon Scott preaching the rock gospel from the pulpit was filmed in July 1977.
It was recorded in the Kirk Gallery church in Surry Hills, New South Wales and was one of the first public appearances with AC/DC of Cliff Williams, who replaced Mark Evans as the band's bass player shortly after the “Let There Be Rock” album was released.
I love the song!
Fun fact: according to an interview with the Young brothers, Bon Scott injured himself in that final jump from the pulpit!

"Marcus Aurelius Antoninus was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and a Stoic philosopher.
He was the last of the rulers known as the Five Good Emperors, and the last emperor of the Pax Romana, an age of relative peace and stability for the Roman Empire lasting from 27 BC to 180 AD.
He served as Roman consul in 140, 145, and 161.
Marcus Aurelius was born during the reign of Hadrian to the emperor's nephew, the praetor Marcus Annius Verus, and the heiress Domitia Calvilla. His father died when he was three, and his mother and grandfather raised him.
After Hadrian's adoptive son, Aelius Caesar, died in 138, the emperor adopted Marcus's uncle Antoninus Pius as his new heir. In turn, Antoninus adopted Marcus and Lucius, the son of Aelius.
Hadrian died that year, and Antoninus became emperor. Now heir to the throne, Marcus studied Greek and Latin under tutors such as Herodes Atticus and Marcus Cornelius Fronto. He married Antoninus's daughter Faustina in 145."

This week in 1984, the Paul Young single “Come Back and Stay” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #74 (February 4)
The song was written and originally recorded in 1981 by US songwriter and musician Jack Lee, who also wrote Blondie’s “Hanging on the Telephone”.
Paul Young’s version from his album “No Parlez” became a worldwide hit, going all the way to #1 in Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand and Belgium, #2 in the Netherlands, #3 in Ireland, Austria and Norway, #4 in the UK, #5 in France, #16 in Sweden, #18 in Australia, and #22 in the US.

On this day in 1977, the Eagles LP “Hotel California” regained the #1 position on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart (February 5)
It first hit #1 on January 15, but was bumped off the top spot by “Songs in the Key of Life” by Stevie Wonder, and the triple live album “Wings Over America”.
“Hotel California” became one of the most iconic and best-selling albums of all time, and was Eagles first album with guitarist Joe Walsh, who had replaced founding member Bernie Leadon, and the last album to feature bass player Randy Meisner.
It has been certified 26× Platinum in the US, and has sold over 32 million copies worldwide, making it the band's best-selling album after “Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975)”.
The album went to #1 in the US, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Norway.
It has been ranked as one of the greatest albums of all time.
In 2003 and 2012, it was ranked #37 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".
Three singles were released from the album, with two topping the US Billboard Hot 100, "New Kid in Town" and "Hotel California", whilst "Life in the Fast Lane" reached #11.
The album was also nominated for Album of the Year but lost to Fleetwood Mac's “Rumours”.
While the band were recording the album, Black Sabbath were recording “Technical Ecstasy” in an adjacent studio at Criteria Studios in Miami.
Eagles were forced to stop recording on numerous occasions because Black Sabbath were too loud and the sound was coming through the wall.
The last track of the album, "The Last Resort", had to be re-recorded a number of times due to noise from the next studio.
In an interview with the Dutch magazine ZigZag shortly before the album's release, Henley said:
“This is a concept album, there's no way to hide it, but it's not set in the old West, the cowboy thing, you know. It's more urban this time….
It's our bicentennial year, you know, the country is 200 years old, so we figured since we are the Eagles and the Eagle is our national symbol, that we were obliged to make some kind of a little bicentennial statement using California as a microcosm of the whole United States, or the whole world, if you will, and to try to wake people up and say,
‘We've been okay so far, for 200 years, but we're gonna have to change if we're gonna continue to be around.'"
Henley said of the themes of the songs in the album:
“They're the same themes that run through all of our work: loss of innocence, the cost of naiveté, the perils of fame, of excess; exploration of the dark underbelly of the American dream, idealism realized and idealism thwarted, illusion versus reality, the difficulties of balancing loving relationships and work, trying to square the conflicting relationship between business and art; the corruption in politics, the fading away of the Sixties dream of peace, love and understanding."
The front cover artwork is a photograph of The Beverly Hills Hotel shot just before sunset by David Alexander with design and art direction by Kosh.
The image was shot 60 feet above Sunset Boulevard on top of a cherry picker.
The rear album cover and gatefold was shot in the lobby of the Lido Hotel in Hollywood.
