If you’re a game dev, consider having your own blog/site. It’s probably going to last longer than any social media platform, unless you choose to shut it down yourself, and it’s really nice having a “home base” that can’t get destroyed by a bored billionaire.
Even a Bear Blog or Neocities can be fun and they’re free. Sure it’s possible that either platform can become garbage at some point, but it’s easy to move the contents elsewhere if they do
Got rambling on bluesky about it so I might as well post it here to make it official.
Having become frustrated with companies like Piko buying the rights to lots of old games, hoarding them, and generally just kinda being assholes about it, my goal for 2025 is to do what these companies won't and buy the rights to a 20+ year old game and make it public domain. It may be a terrible Klik & Play game that someone made when they were 10, but it will happen.
I don't think I've actually posted anything from my adventure game yet? It's just a short and free point-and-click adventure for the Ann Arbor District Library about local Ann Arbor figure Dr. Chase, who made a book of recipes in the late 1800s. The game will use his recipes real puzzle solutions, but I don't actually recommend making them in real life
