Is Signal "Perfect Security"? Of course not. But it's hitting a whole bunch of tradeoffs in order to provide a very good, very accessable, and free secure communication tool to anyone. And I think all things considered, they're doing okay at selecting their tradeoffs.

Whenever possible, stop linking news stories that are behind paywall or registration wall. I'm never paying NYT or WaPo or any of the other fash rags a dime again ever.
