I watched people all night long hit the ground floor here with an audible *thud* as they all expected there to be one more step downward, heh. While I do not think this is an accessibility violation, I do think it's poor design. 🦢
"Learn the difference between 'helping' and being 'helpy'" ~ @npub1udn9...3tjr at #BSidesSEA (If all you are doing is pointing at things and saying "look I found all these problems" you're not helping, you're being helpy... Being "helpy" allows you to claim that you're part of the process and a valuable part of the team and it makes you visible in meetings but doesn't actually improve anything.) image
Thank you to everybody who sent me the news stories and posts about the hacked crosswalk buttons in Silicon Valley and Seattle. Maybe we'll see them elsewhere, too, soon? I'm betting there may be other cities who's DOT chose weak passwords for systems like this. If you haven't heard what's up, I did a super short video about this...
Is Angelia trying to send me a spam email or ransom note? image
EDIT: So it seems like Anki is the main thing I should be trying first. Thank you to the approximately 500 of you and counting who suggested this in their replies! πŸ˜‚ Ok, internet, I've looked and looked and for the life of me I can't find something that seems like it should be easy to implement and would sell well: study guide / brain trainer software that would allow you to easily make self-quizzing tools. Anyone can hand-make flash cards, but it'd be nice not to waste paper. But much more than that I would hope such software starts learning success rates, so that it starts offering you more and more of the questions that haven't been answered as successfully/quickly. Also, the ability to incorporate images as well as merely text would be marvelous. Bonus: being able to populate all of this on a computer and not pecking away at a teeny smartphone screen keyboard would definitely be desirable. Thoughts?
This week's video is about a timely issue: How sure are YOU that your friends' and relatives' browsers are properly locked down? Recent changes to Chrome resulted in uBlock Origin no longer working for many users, and they may not realize it. See what happened to someone I know...
I'm still on my kick of playing with tracker technology for luggage and more, and a question as arisen: I often get messages about "unknown Air Tag traveling with you" because all of the ones I'm using belong to Tarah or Emily or someone else other than me. Let's say you *do* get a message like that, what steps would you take to locate such an Air Tag? With a suitcase it's pretty straightforward, but what about a motorcycle or a car? You can't reasonably tear the entire thing apart. I would think that the Apple's ultrawideband technology would be used in getting that pinpoint localization of the tag, but is that available to people other than the tag's current owner or authorized parties? Can a "stranger" ping a nearby Air Tag and fix its position discretely with their own iPhone? If they can't what's the alternative? An SDR with a very specific directional antenna?
Liven up the group chats you're in by posting any or all of these images along with some bullshit bombastic emojis like πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ€œπŸ€›πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΊπŸ§™β€β™‚οΈπŸ₯΅πŸ†πŸ’¦ then abruptly delete it all about 15 minutes later, saying something like "Wait, shit, is this the chat WITH reporters or WITHOUT reporters??"
Many of you know that the administration is trying a lot of fuckery with US Passports and gender markers right now. They violated the Administrative Procedure Act by doing this without a comment period. Right now, they are trying to cure the APA violation by having an after-the-fact comment period... ... you can go there RIGHT NOW and make your voice heard. The comments currently are overwhelmingly negative, opposing the administration's bigoted and harmful rule changes. If you can, please go add your voice. You may think it will make no difference, but the courts can and will look at all of this. Your comment RIGHT NOW opposing passport sex marker nonsense can make you a part of yet another inevitable Trump loss in the court systems soon. image
