A passport is an empty vessel that is filled with citizenship rights. The citizenship is the source of mobility benefits (residency, work rights, visa-free access, etc.) not the passport. “Passport rankings” and such is a misnomer that continues to cause mass confusion about what exactly a citizenship is and what a passport is. I suggest freedom-of-movement minded Americans develop at least a BASIC document archive for global mobility (future citizenship, residency, visa) applications ahead of time. The basic archive includes 3 original or certified copies of: - Your birth certificate - Your marriage certificate (if applicable) - Your divorce decree (if applicable) - Birth certificate of minor children (if applicable) - Official name change documentation (if applicable) + an apostille for one of each of the above 5 documents.
